Middleton DepartmentofBotany,Trinity College,Dublin 2,Ireland1 Summary Thenewspecies Willughbeialunduensis D.J.Middleton isdescribed. Introduction Whilstexamining thematerialofApocynaceae intheForestResearch InstituteofMa- laysiainKepong I came uponaspecimen ofWillughbeia collectedin Sarawakwhich proved to be anew species related to W. sarawacensis (Pierre) K.Schum. and W. anomalaMarkgr. but differingfromtheminthevery muchlargerandmore densely pubescent flowers. Thegenus Willughbeia Roxb. hasrecently been revised(Middle- ton, 1993)and unfortunately thisspecies is not included.It will,however, beincor- porated intothefutureFloraMalesianaaccount. Willughbeia lunduensisD.J. Middleton,spec. nov. —Fig. 1 Willughbeiaanomala affinissed tubo etlobiscorollae longioribus.Willughbeiasarawacen- sis affinis sed inflorescentiis ettubo etlobis corollae longioribus. —Typus: Awa& Ilias PaieS47407 (KEPholo;KEPiso) from Malaysia, Sarawak, 1stDivision,Sebako Water- fall,Lundu. Climberto6m high. Branchletsbrowntomentose. Leaves:petiole 1.4-2.7cm long; bladeelliptic, oblong or slightly obovate, apexshortacuminate,base acute toobtuse, 17.3-19.7x 6-8.1 cm, 2.6-3.1 x as long as wide, 17-19pairs oflateralnerves at 80°to themidrib, tertiary venationscalariform, tomentose onmidriband nerves. In- florescence ofa shortpeduncled cymewithflowers clusteredatends, tomentose, 5.4-7 cm long; pedicels 1.3-3.5 mmlong. Sepals ovate, strongly imbricate,apex rounded, 1.1-1.5x 1.8-2.1 mm, 0.6-0.7 x as long as wide, tomentose. Corolla white; tube2.8-3 cm long; lobes obovate, 1.2-1.4cm long, 3.5-4 mm wide; to- mentoseoutside, pubescent aroundstamens inside.Stamensinsertedat7.3mmfrom corollabase, whichis 0.3oftube length; filaments 1.4 mmlong, strongly bent;an- thers 2.5x 0.6 mm,4.2xas long as wide. Ovary 1.2mm long; style +pistil head 3.7 mmlong. Fruitunknown. Distribution— SolitarycollectionfromSarawak, 1stDivision.
