Abstract Anewspeciesofthemacrocephalicpterostichinecarabidbeetleisde-
scribed fromtheChunoDistrictofGifuPrefecture.Central .lapan,underthenameof
Pte''ostlc1/us11lkilbe.
Anewmacrocephalicpterostichinecarabidbeetlewasdiscovered fromtheChuno
DistrictofGifuPrefecture,CentralJapan.Thisarea,extendingtothenorthoftheNobi
PlainanditsnortherntoeasternpartsfacingthesouthernendsoftheRyohakuMoun-
tains,theHidaMountainsandtheKisoMountains,issectionalizedintricatelybythree
largerivers, theKisoRiver,theNagaraRiverandtheIbiRiverwhicharecollectively
calledtheKiso-san-sen.Thereforeitseemsveryinterestingforanalysingthedistribu-
tionandspeciationofthepterostichinecarabids.Theauthorandhiscolleagueshave
beeninvestigatingthefaunaofpterostichinecarabids formorethanfiveyearsinthis
area. Intheautumnof2004, theywereabletoobtainratheralongseriesofacharac-
teristicmacrocephalicpterostichinecarabidontheridgeofMt.Fukube-ga-takewhich
is locatedalmost at thesouthernend of theMine Mountains, thesmall mountains
ranging to thesouthof theRyohakuMountains. Although twospecies of macro-
cephalicpterostichinecarabidshavealreadybeenknownfromtheneighboringareas,
namely Pte1・ostlchusuedao1・urn MORITAet HIRASAwA (1996, pp 27-30) from Mt.
IwozenandMt.Haku-san,andPte1,ostlc11ustoda1MORITAetKANIE(1997,pp.163-
167) fromMt.Ena_san,thisspeciesisdistinguishablefromthesespeciesbyhaving
somepeculiarcharacteristicsandisnewtoscience.Inthispaper,theauthorwillde-
scribeitunderthenameofPte1-ostlc11tlsfilkube.

Length(measured fromclypea1apextoelytra1apices): 14.4-16.3mminmale;
15-18.7mm in female (relatively larger insize thanother alliedspecies). Humeral
width:3.1-3.6mminmale,3.3-4.2mminfemale.0thersignificantmeasurementsare
shown inTable t.
Body rather fiat, almost impunctate. Colour dark reddish brown to blackish
brown; headdarker though thelabialandmaxillarypalpi, labrum, antennaeandlegs
arelighter.
Head voluminousandrounded,slightly narrower thanoralmostaswideasthe
widestportionofpronotum,andin female,sometimesalittlewider thanthat;apical
marginoflabrumrathershallowlyemarginate; frontal furrowsapparentlylonganddis-
tinct,extendingnearvertexatapparentlybehindthepost-eyelevelandreachingalittle
beyondfrontalsuture,ratherincurvatelyconvergenttowardsfrontalsutureonfrons,al-
mostparalleledonclypeus;clypea1basebearingseveral longitudinalwrinklesoutside
andalongfrontal furrows,thewrinklessometimesfusedand formingratherdeepfur-
rows,apicalmarginofclypeusalmoststraightthoughveryshallowlyemarginate;eyes
verysmall andentirely at; temporaemoderatelyandevenlyarcuate,notsostrongly
tumid; lateralgroovesslightlyarcuate,shortanddeep,extending fromthemid-eye

Etymology. Thespeciesname,fukubeisoriginallytheJapanesenounmeanjng
9ou「dS.Thisnewspeciesisnamedafterthemountainnameofthetypelocalityand
alsothebodyshaperesemblingagourd.
要 約
ﾇ 杉村明道:岐阜県中濃地方の第ケ 岳から発見されたナガゴミ฀シの1 新種 . 山支阜県中
濃地方は濃尾平野の北に位置し,北部から東部にかけては両白山地, 飛5車山地および木曽山地
に囲まれ,木曽三川といわれる木曽川,長良川および揖装川により複雑に区画されているので,
ナガゴミムシの分布や種分化に関して非常に興味深い地域である.著者らは2004年秋に, 両白
山地の南に連なる美濃山地の南端に位置する瓢ヶ岳で特徴的なオオズナガゴミムシを採集し
た. 近隣からはすでに,医王山と白山から記載されたゥェダオオズナガゴミムシpfc・,ost,chus
uedao,・u,nと, 恵那山から記載されたェナオオズナガゴミムシPte,・ostlch,,stoda1-が知られている
が, 本種は体表面がほとんど点刻されないこと,雄交尾器中央片は一様に孤状で基部113で緩
やかに屈曲すること, 鞘 は短く肩部が狭く傾斜することなどの特徴を有しており, 既知のオ
オズナガゴミムシとは容易に区別できるので, ミノオオズナガゴミムシpfc,・ostlc1/,,slit/t,besuG1_
MuRA,sp nov.と命名して記載した.
