Abstract Anewspeciesof thegenusPlatycerus is described from Mt. cruel
ShanofcentralSichuan,SouthwestChina,under thenameP tleguanz1.
Ofthetotallythirteenspeciesof thegenusPlatycerushithertoknown fromChina,
fivearerecordedfromSichuan,namely,P dunda1,P femlnatus,P hiurai,P. ladyaeand
P. conslmilis,allbelongingtothegroupofP delicatulus (IMuRA, 2005, '06; IMuRA&
BARToLozzI,1994;TANIKAD0&TABANA,1997, '98). Intheautumnof2006,Imade
ashortcollectingtriptoMt. cruelShanincentralSichuanofSouthwestChina,with the
purposeofafaunalsurveyofthisgenus,andfortunatelysucceededinobtainingashort
seriesofstrangespeciesnever introducedintoscience. In thispaper, I amgoing to
describeitasanewspeciesunder thenameofP tieguanzi.

Male. Length (includingmandibles):11.6-l2.5mm. Bodyabovebluishgreen
withafaint goldentingeandnotverystronglypolished;mandibles,kneesand tibiae
greenishblack;palpi,antennae, tarsiandclawsbrownishblack; femoraexcept for the
distalendsreddishbrown;venterblack,witharemarkableblue-greenishmetallicluster.
Head as in theother membersof thegenus; its dorsal surface rather coarsely
scatteredwithsmallpunctures, whicharenotconfluentwithoneanother;mandibles
(Fig.1-c)smallandshort,notconcaveaboveinbasalportions,withtheoutermargins
stronglyarcuateinbasalhalvesandnearlystraightinapicalhalves,withtheapicaltips
narrowandsharplypointed;retinaculashort,withtheinnermarginstridentateoneach
side.

middle, roundlyarcuateinlateralsides,withthefrontanglessubtriangularlyprotruded
anteriadwithblunt tips,thehindanglesobtusethoughobviouslysubangulate;discnot
sostronglyconvexaboveforamemberofthegenus,andalmostsimilarlypunctateason
head.
Elytraverylongforamemberofthegenus,1.82-1.92timesaslongaswide,widest
obviouslybehindthemiddle,withthelateralsidesnearlyparallel-sidedinapicalhalves
androundlyarcuatenearapices;shouldersdistinctandsubangulate,withaverysmall
humeral toothoneachside;surfacerather uniformlyscatteredwithsmall punctures
whichareoftenarrangedinlongitudinal rows;intervalsweaklyrugose-striatenearthe
suturalpart inapicalhalves.
MalegenitalorganasshowninFig.1-dand1-e;viewedventrally, lateralsideof
each paramere rather conspicuously in atedinbasal portion, its inner apical angle
effaced, innermarginremarkablyemarginatenear thebase,andprotrudedinwardsat
the basal portion, apical margin of basal piecesubtrapezoida11y protruded apicad;
viewed dorsally, inner margin of each paramere widely and roundly emarginate
throughout, with the inner basalangleobliquelyprotruded, basalpiece triangularly
protrudedinwards;aedeagusmushroom-shapedinventralview,withapairofvisor-like
protuberancesontheventral-tolateralmarginwelldeveloped.
Fema1e. Length (includingmandibles):12.4mm. Bodyabovebrassywitha
faintgreen-purplishtingealonglateralmarginsandalittlemorestronglypolishedthan
inmale;colorationof appendagesandventeralmostasinmale.
Headmuchsmaller thaninmale; itsdorsalsurfacerather coarselyscatteredwith
smallpunctureswhicharenotconfluentwithoneanother;mandibles(Fig 2-c)small
andshort,withthebasicstructurealmostasintheothermembersof thesamegenus.
Pronotumtransverse,1.39timesaswideaslong,widestalittlebehindthemiddle,
with thewidest partssubangulateandmuchmorestronglyproducedlateradthanin
male,frontanglesmuchshorterandlessstronglyprotrudedanteriadthaninmale,hind
anglesobtusethoughobviouslysubangulate;discnotsostronglyconvexabove fora
memberof thegenus,andalittlemoresparselypunctatethanonhead.
Elytramuchrobusterthaninmale,1.63timesaslongaswide,widestobviously
behindthemiddle,withthelateralsidesnearlystraightandweaklydivergentposteriad
inapicalhalves,androundlyarcuatenearapices;shouldersdistinct andsubangulate,
withaverysmallhumeral toothoneachside;surfaceratheruniformlyscatteredwith
smallpunctureswhichareoftenarrangedinlongitudinalrows;intervalsfaintlyrugose-
striatenear thesuturalpartinmedianportions.
Female genital organ as shown in Fig 2-f; gonocoxitewith thebasal portion
stronglyin atedandpear-shapedindorsal view.
Typeseries. Holotype: , Leidongping [需洞坪], 2,430m in altitude, on the
,f,tl northernslopeofMt.EmeiShan [1幅ﾂ山] o centra Sichuan Southwes China,8-X
-2006,Y.IMURAleg.,tobepreservedintheDepartmentofZoology,NationalScience
Museum (Nat. Hist), Tokyo. Paratypes: l (deadbrokenspecimenwithout all the
right legs, left hindleg,palpiandantennae),samearea(2,350minaltitude),9-XI-

Nlotes. This newspecies is most closely allied toP fe(minatus (TANIKADo et
TABANA,1997)describedfromthenorthernpartofMeiguXianinsouthernSichuan,
but readily distinguished from that species as follows: 1) size a littlesmaller; 2)
colorationverydifferent,withthedorsalsurfacemuchlessstronglypolished;3)male
mandibleslessstronglyhooked inwards,withtheoutermarginsalittlelessroundly
arcuate,innermarginsofretinaculatridentateoneachside;4)malepronotumrelatively
smaller and narrower, with thelateral sidesevenly arcuate throughout andhardly
angulateatbasalthird;5)elytramoreacutelynarrowedtowardsapices,withthemedian
portionofdiscalsurfacenarrowlybutobviouslyrugose-striate;6)malegenitalorgan
different inshape;paramerewith theapicalinnerangleonventralsidenotprotruded
inwardsas inP femmatus, its innermarginon ventralsideremarkablyemarginate;
aedeaguswithapairofvisor-likeprotuberancesontheventral-tolateralmarginslarger
andmorestronglyprotrudedbilaterally.
Thenewspecieswas collected fromnear thebordersbetween deciduousbroad-
leaved forest and theAbles-Rhododendron zone. All thethreetypespecimenswere
hibernatingingray-rottenpartofstandingwitheredwoodsatabout30to200cmabove
theground.
Thenewname, tieguarlzi [鉄冠子], comesfromthatofalegendarywizardwho
appears inafictionalstorytitled“Duzichun-chuan [杜子春伝] ,”oneof theChuanqi
novelswrittenin theTangAge,andissaidtohavelivedonMt. EmeiShan.

井村有希:中国四川省の收ll 眉山から得られたルリクワガタの1新極. - 中国四川省中部の山我
眉山から得られたルリクワガタの1種を新極とみなし, テッカンシルリクワガタp tieguanziと
いう名を与えて記載した. 本種は, 外部および交尾器の基本形態からみて, 既知の中国産各種の
なかでは四川省南部のアカアシツヤルリクワガタP feminatusにもっとも類縁が近いものと考え
られるが, 色彩, 外部形態および交尾器形態に複数の顕著な相違がみられることにより識別は容
易である. 極名は, 中国唐代に書かれた伝奇小説, 杜子春伝に登場し, ll幅ﾂ山に住んだといわれ
る仙人, 鉄冠子に由来する.
