Abstract AnewalieculinespeciesfromNorthThailandisdescribedunderthe
nameofM,c,・oa111a,,g,;Illsrsllgee,espnov.
Inthecourseofmyentomological resea℃l hinNorthThailand,Icollectedasmall
insectinanatural forestonMt.DoiSuthepinChiangMalProvince.Atfirstglancell
seemstobeanAmarygmtlsspecies,butactuallytheinsectpossessespectinateclaws
byacloseexaminationunderamicroscope,sothatitbelongstotheA11eculinae.Itrjed
tomakeclear itstaxonomicpositionforseveralyearsbyexaminingtypesandmateri-
alspreservedinthecollectionsofmajorEuropeanmuseums.Asmyresearchwaslim-
itedwithinmaterialsof“AIIeculidae”, Iwasnotabletofindanyalliedspecies.Re_
cently, inhis revisional study concerning theamarygminebeetles, BREMER(2001)
statedthatMid-carnal、,gm1lsisamemberoftheA11eculinae.Pfc(1915)erectedthis
genus forMid-carnal:1gml lsmadlt,・ensls from“Indes: Madura”,andregardeditasa
member of amarygmine genera. Thus, I am going todescribeherein theunknown
speciesasanewmemberofMlc1-oalnarygmtls.

Darkreddishbl-own,headexcept forclypeusandgenae,majorportionsofprone_
tum,elytra,andantennalsegments6thtobasalhalvesof11thblackwith feeblebrown-

ishtinge,basalpartofpronot1.lm,scutellum,suturalpartandapairofobliquelycres-
centpatches onelytrareddishbrown,mouthparts yellowishbrown;dorsal surface
ratherstrongly,somewhatvitreouslyshining;ventralsurfaceratheralutaceous;poste-
riorpartofhea pronotum,scutellumandelytraglabrous.Bodyovate,stronglycon-
vexdorsad.
Head transverselysubhexagona1thoughthebasalpart iscoveredby pronotum,
moderatelyscatteredwithsmallpunctures;clypeuswidelysubhexagona1, feeblycon-
vexinmiddle,gentlyinclinedapicad,withtruncateapex; fronto-clypea1borderwidely
curvedandgrooved;genaebeforeeyessmall,oblique,almost at,withoutermargins
onlyslightlyproduced; fronsgently inclinedanteriad,thoughrathersteeplysocloseto
thefronto-clypea1border;eyesfairlylarge,subreniform,convex latera somewhat tri-
angularlyinlaidintohea diatoneabout1.8timesthewidthofaneyetransversediam-
eter. Antennaeslightlythickenedapicad,reachingbasal t/4ofelytra,9apicalseg-
mentsmoreorlessdilatedtoeachapex,ratioofthelengthofeachsegment frombase
toapex:0.33,0.2,0.29,0.33,0.31,0.34,0.38,0.37,0.36,0.34,0.46.
Pronotumsomewhat trapezoidal, twiceaswideaslong, widest atbase; apexal-
moststraight,thoughveryslightlyemarginateoneachside;basegentlyproducedin
medial2/5,weaklysinuousoneachside;sidesrathersteeplydeclinedtolateralmar-
gins,whicharegentlyrounde borderedandvisiblefromabove; frontanglesrounde
hindanglesobtuse;discbroadlyconvex,moderatelyscatteredwithsmallpunctures,
whicharealmostofthesamesizeasthoseonthehead.Scutellumtriangular, attenecし

Notes. This new species canbeeasily distinguished from Mlcroamarygmus
madurenlsPfc,1915bythesmallerandlessconvexbody,withtheclypeusandgenae
obviouslydepresse thepronotumnotsonarrowedapica andtheelytrawithdistinct
patchesandmorefinelypunctateintervals.

益本仁雄:北タイ産Mcroamarygmus(Alleculinae)の1新種. - 北タイで採集したゴミムシ
ダマシ科(Tenebrionidae)キマワリ族(Amarygmini)マルキマワリ(Amarygmus)属によく似た甲虫
は, 実はクチキムシ(Tenebrionidae,Alleculinae)の仲間であった. この昆虫の属を検討していた
ところ, BREMER(2001)によるマルキマワリ属および近縁属の研究からMcroamarygmusPIcはク
チキムシであることが判明し, 本種はこの属に属することが明らかになったので, Micro-

veryraresinceonlyafemaletypespecimenhassofarbeenknown.

Notes. Thespecimenexaminedalmostagreeswiththeholotypeexceptforalittlelarger
body(16.5mm)andafewdetailsoftheelytra1maculation:thesecondlemonyellowpubescent
bandisslightlyobliqueandnarrower(transverseintheholotype);thebasalreddishareaismore
enlargedposteriad. Ratiosthemainpartsofbodyareasfollows: HW/PA1.11, HW/PW0.77,
PL/PAt.35,PB/PAt.04,PL/PW0.94,PW/EW0.89,EL/EW2.66.
