landofMinami-Daito-jima,SouthwestJapanunderthenameofB. bi111aculata.It resem-
blesB.1utosaJORDANdescribedfromtheIslandofLuzon,thePhilippines.
Through thecourtesy ofMr. TadafumiNAKATAof theJapan International Re-
searchCenter forAgriculturalSciences,wehaverecentlyhadanopportunitytoexam-
inesixspecimensofapeculiarspeciesofthegenusBasit1-oplscollectedby himself
fromtheIslandofMinami-Daito-jima,SouthwestJapan.But foronespecimen, these
anthribidswerecollectedbyalighttrapinaforestofCasuarinaequlsetlfo(lialyingon
theseasideofthe Island. Afteracarefulexamination,itwasclarifiedtobenew tosci-
ence,andwillbedescribedinthepresentpaper.

Length:7.4-10.0mm(fromapicalmarginofrostrumtoapicesofelytra).
Male. Colourpredominantlyblack, labrum,maxillaryandlabialpalpi,funiculi,

tarsiandclawsbrowntodarkbrown.Pubescencedense,grayandblack; blackhairsof
elytraformingmanysmallroundirregularpatches,ofwhichtwobehindthemiddleof
elytraarerelatively large.Pygidiumandundersidecoveredwithgray hairs,without
maculation.
Headpunctate, withalongitudinal sulcus betweeneyes;eyesstronglyconvex
above, emarginate inanterior margin,andrelatively separated fromeachother; ros-
trumtransverse,about1.5timesaswideaslong,slightlywidenedtowardsthebasesof
mandibles,raisedinmiddleofanterio1-margin;maximumwidthofrostrumabout16
timesas wideastheshortest distancebetweeneyes.Antennaestumpy,moderately
long,extendingobviouslybeyondthebasalmarginsofelytra,2ndsegmentstheshort-
est 6thelongated triangular, 7th triangular, 8th triangular, distinctly larger than7th,
9thtransverse,thewidest,about1.19timesaswideaslong,10thtransverse,about1.5
timesas wideas long,11thsubpentagona1,angulateat apex; 6th to11thsegments
formingalargeclub;proportionsinlength from1stto11thabout18:12:24:25:20:
20:20:29:22:17:15.
Pronotumquadrate,about1.1timesaswideaslong,widestatmiddle;basalmar-
ginalmost representedbydorsal transversecarina; lateralsidesslightlyexpandedat
middle;discconvexatthecentre,vertical inbasaldeclivity; dorsal transversecarina
slightly bisinuate, and angularly connectedwitheach lateral carina, thelatter some-
whatdeclivousinbasalhalf,andhorizontallyextendingtosubapicalpartofsidemar-
gin;wholepartsofcarinaeblackandsaw-like.Scutellumsomewhattransverse.Elytra
long,about 176timesaslongaswide,parallel-sidedinbasal three-fourths,thennar-
rowedposteriorly,basalmarginalmoststraight;stria1puncturesverysmall,deep,inter-
valsflat,broad,distinctlybroaderthanthedistancebetweenpuncturesofstriae.Pygid-
iumsemicircular,somewhat inclined forwards,about164timesaswideaslong,lat-
eralmarginsgraduallyconvergenttowardswidelyroundedapex;discflat.
Prosternumcoarse,deeplypunctate;metasternumpunctateexcept for thecentre,
thepuncturessmallerandshallower thanthoseonprosternum.Viewed fromside,1st
to4thvisiblesternitesconjointlyhorizontal,theterminalonesomewhatslanting.Legs
relativelythick;anterior femurnearlyaslongasthemedianwhichisshorter thanthe
posterior;anterior,medianandposteriortibiaesubequa1inlengthtooneanother;ante-
riortarsusshorterthantheposteriorwhichisshorterthanthemedian.
Female. Antennaeshort,not reachingthebasalmarginofpronotum,8thseg-
mentsapicallydilated,about13timesaswideaslong,9thtriangular,about12times
aswideaslong,10thtransverse,about17timesaswideaslong,11thsubtriangular;
8thto11thsegments formingalargeclub;proportions in length from8thto11th
about6:12:9:14.

Distribution. Japan(Minami-Daito-jimaIs).
Nlotes. In general appearance, thisspecies resemblesBasitropls lutosus [sic]
JORDAN(1895,p.194)describedfromtheIslandofLuzon,thePhilippines,butcanbe
distinguishedfromthelatterbythefollowingcharacteristics:elytrawithapairofblack
round irregularmaculations behind themiddle; pygidiumwithout keel; underside
whollycoveredwithgrayhairs,withoutmaculation;5thvisiblestemitenotdepressed,
withoutlonghairs,andsoon.
AccordingtoMr.NAKATA,manyindividualsofthisspeciesflewtoalighttrapin
aforestofCasuarinaequlselifo(lia. Itappearsthattheislandharboursalargenumber
ofindividualsofthisspecies.
要 約
妹尾俊男・的場 績: 南大東島から発見されたナギナタヒゲナガゾウムシ属 (新称) の1新
種. - 南大束島で昆虫類の調査を実施された, 国際農林水産業研究センター沖縄支所の中
田唯文氏によって, 背面の斑紋に著しい特徴をもつヒゲナガゾウムシが採集された. この種は,
フィリピンのルソン島から記載されたBasit1・opls/utosaJORDANに似てぃるが, 上翅中央後に不規
則ながらl対の黒色紋をもつ, 尾節板中央に隆起線がない, 腹面は全体的に淡黄色の毛でおお
われ黒色紋がない, 第5腹板は圧平されず, 長毛を欠く, などの特徴により容易に区別するこ
とができる. それでこの種を新種と認め, Basit1・opisbimaculata (新称:フタモンフトヒケ゛ナガ
ゾウムシ) と命名し, 記載した.
採集者の中田氏によると, 夜間に亀池港近くのモクマオウの海岸林におけるライトトラップ
に飛来した個体および昼間にモクマオウの乾燥した倒木上を徘徊していた個体を採集したとい
う. そのとき採集されたのは6頭のみであるが, ライトトラップに次つぎに飛んできたことを
考えると, かなり多くの個体が発生しているものと思われる.
