text (Dixon, 1915: 294) states: “Plagiothecium
shaded, near Hagkala (222), det. Brothems; bv
stream, &c„ N. E. (353, 359, 369); shaded rock near
stream, Nanuoya (424), a robust fomi with stems 4 in.
the name is lectotvpified. The validity of the name
[unnamed] variant (forma?) that the Binstead 424
O’Shea, 2002). The former is nonspecific with P.
in October 1901 by Robert Wright (Wright 3798) and M. Fleischer, instead of Plagiothecium, based on the

waterfall, Feb. 1913, C. H. Binstead 359 (BM); Nuwara Eliya,

TaxiphvUum known from Sri Lanka (O’Shea, 2002): T.
He, 2005), but none match T. townsendii in
(Mitten) M. Fleischer are morphologically different
habit and shorter and wider laminal cells (80-100 X
leaves, 0.7-0.8 X 0.3 mm, with very short, narrow
laminal cells, 30^10 X 4-5 pm. Finally, T. maniae
T. taxirameum (O’Shea et al„ 2003).
T. deplanatum (Bruch & Schimper ex Sullivant) M.
North American plant (Ireland, 1969) that is also
(Thwaites & Mitten) O’Shea, J. Hattori Bot.
