ChorioacTisgeaster(Sarcosomataceae)wasfirstreportedfromAustin,Texasin
189,3byCharlesPeckasUrnulageastcrbasedonspecimenscollectedNovem-
ber24,1891andreceivedfromL.M.Underwood(ReportoftheStateBotanist,
page39(or119forthemsertedreport),inthe46AnnualReportoftheNew
YorkStateMuseum,1893).Later,(ReportoftheStateBotanist,NYStateMu-
seumReport#62,1908,page31)Peckpresentsfurtherdiscussionbasedonad-
ditionalspecimensfrom Texas.Kupfer(1902:142)placed it inthe genus
Chorioaciis,alsoseeEckblad(1968).AlthoughImazeki(1938)reporteditfrom
Kyushu,Japan,Pettersonetal.(2004)suggeststhefungifromJapanandTexas
representtwoseparatehneagesthatdivergedatleast19MYA.InTexasthelun-
gushasbeenfoundinAustin(TravisCo.)byPeckandSeaver(1939)Rudy(2001),
DallasCo.,nearJoePoolLakebyRudyandKeller(1996),Ruby(2001),Guada-
lupeCo.byMims(2004onwebsite),DentonCo.byBuller(1934),reportedas
uncertainbyRudy(2001),TarrantCo.,byRudyandKeller(1996),Rudy(2001),
andHuntCo.,byRudyandKeller(1996),Rudy(2001).Rudy(2001)alsolists
BurnetorpossiblyLlano,andPaloPintocounties.
InNovember,2004oneofus(JS)collectedaspecimeninapasturelocated
nearAltoga,Texas,inCollinCo.,Texas.Thespecimenwasfoundgrowingin
moistsoil700yardswestoffarmroad470,0.8mileswestofitsjunctionwith
FR1827,westofAltoga,CollinCo.,Texas.Thepasturewasalargeopenfieldon
theeastsideofSistergroveCreekwithinthefloodplaininanopenareawith
clumpsofRumexcnspusL.Thepasturehadbeenmaintainedaspasturefor
over30years.Therewasnoevidenceoftreestumps,orshrubsinthearea.
