Abstract A new prionid genus l'iete//opts isproposed forthe receptionofa
unjqucspecies,1.'、,l,-idisspnovfromnorthernVictnam.ltresemblesMe1gopis、butreadily
distinguishedbythedorso-ventrallydividedeyes.
In 1992,abeautifullycolouredprionidspecimenwasbroughtabout fromthe
mountainousareaofnorthernVietnam.0nlyaglancewasenoughforrecognizingthat
itbelongedtoanewspecies,which, I thought,wasamemberofthegenusMegopls.
Afteracloseexamination,however,Ihavecometotheconclusionthatitisnotonlya
newspeciesbutrepresentsanewgenus.Besides, itmaynotbeincludedinthetribe
Megopini GILMoUR, in spiteof its superficial resemblance to the genus Megopls
SERvlLLE. IamgoingtodescribethisremarkablespeciesunderthenameofVietet'opts
、,i,・idisgen etsp nov.,andtomakeacommentontherelationshipbetweenthisgenus
andthegenusMegop,s.

Male. Bodymetallicgreen、partlyblack, elongatedcylindrical.Headrobust;
fronsverticalwithapairo「strongcarinae,eachofwhichisconnectedwitheachan-
tennaltubercle.Mandiblesshortandthick.Uppereyelobescompletelyseparatedfrom
lower eye lobes,soasto form foureyes.Antennae1.1timesaslongasbody,of12
segments;scaperobus、t arcuateanddenticulateinternally;3rdsegmentarcuate,more
thantwiceaslongasscape、withastrongverticalapicalspine.Metastema1episternum
broad,parallel-sidedandrectangularlytruncatedposteriad.
Generallysimilarto、butobviouslybroaderthanmale.Bodymetallic
Female.
indigo、partlymetallicgreen、darkerthaninmale.Antennae0.5-0.6timesaston9as
body;3rdsegmentstronglybroadeneddorso-ventrally,withoutapicalspine; l2thso9-
mentnarrowerandshorterthananyoftheothers.

Male. Body generally green, partly black, blueor brown; elytragreen on
costae、sutureandnearante-basal partwithastronggoldenlustre.intervalsmatgreen
frons.vertex,gena,gulaandscutellummetallicgreenpartlyaccompaniedwithablue
lustre,pronotumdeepgreen、moderatelymatandwithlustrousbasal line;head、prono-
tumandscutellumwithshinymcdianline1eyesblack:outsideofmandiblesandscapes
blackwithagreentint, femora、tibiae,and2ndto6thantennalsegmentsglossyblack
with faintbluetint;apicalhalvesof5thand6thantennalsegmentsaswellas7thand
moreapicalonesmat black, thorax except for pro- andmesocoxaemetallic green;
coxaeandabdominal sternitesglossy black with faint blue tint. Dorsal side almost
glabrous. Ventral sidegenerally covered with thin but distinct white pubescence.
Frons,pronota1discandlegs feeblyandsparsely furnishedwithminutegreypubes-
cence.
Headcylindrical almostofthesamesizeaspronotum,about0.8timesaslongas
wide,widestnearapicalone-fifth,andthenconicallynarrowedposteriad, finelypunc-
turedandpartlygranulated; fronsvertical,convexatmiddlewithapairofridgesatthe
sides comingdown from antennal tubercles, witha しttheretoatmiddlejust above
clypeus;vertexlevel,withstrongantennaltuberclesandtwosmalltuberclesonocciput
oneachsideofmedianlineslightlyposterior toeyes:eachgulawithashortconical,
obtuselypointedprotuberanceanteriortoeye.Mandiblesshor、t almostaslongas7th
antennal segment, about as long as thick, irregularly more thickened towardsbase,
finelypuncturedoutside,eachwithtwosmalldentsinside,whicharcroundlyarcuate
andobtuselybifidattheapices.Palpiminute,aboutaslongas l2thantennalsegment;
labialpalpuswithflattenedapicalsegment、eyesfaceted;uppereyelobescompletely
separated from lower eyelobes, theintervalofthetwolobesbeingmarkedbyshiny
patches; thelower lobeabout5timesaslargeastheupperone.Antennaeabout1.1
timesaslongasbody;relativelengthofeachsegmentasfollows: - 5.0:1.0:10.l:6.0:
3.6:3.1:2.4:2.2:2.2:2.0:1.9:1.2,scaperobust,slightlyarcuate,ruggedlygranulate
andpuncturedoutside,denticulateinside:2ndshort,narrower thanscapeandwider
than3rd;3rdlong,arcuatedorso-ventrally,stronglyasperatewithirregular granules
andpuncturesandmoredistinctlysoon theunderside、withaconspicuousvertical
spineontheundersidenear theapex,4thto6thslightlyarcuate,widened,andangulate
ateachapex、7thtolithserrateandshagreenedlLl2thovalandslender.
Pronotumsubcylindrical, finelypunctured,about0.8timesaslongaswide,nar-
rowest at theapex,slightlywidened towardsthemiddlethenparallel-sided tobase; a
pair ofprojectionsat thelateralendofbasal margin;each lateral marginof thorax
complete,starting fromthebasalprojection,straightly runningdownwards to coxal
cavity, thendirectedupwards, andendinginthemiddleofapical margininlateral

Ventralsidegenerallysmooth.withoutgranules.Mctastemalepisternumb「oadL
rectangularly truncated both posteriorly andanteriorly. Abdominal stemitcs finely
punctured.Femorastout,glabrous,withneither teethnorgranules,eachwithadeep
ventralgrooveinapicalhalf,tibiaeslender,eachwithapairofcarinaebeneathaccom-
paniedwithsmallgranules,apicalspurssmall;1sttarsalsegmentthelongest,3rdthe
nextanddeeplybilobed.
Length37-40mm,width9mm.
Female. Similar tomale.Bodycolourmorebluish,withabdominalstemites
orangeyellow.Antennaeshorter、about0.6timesaslongasbody,with3rdsegment
muchbroadeneddorso-ventrally、6thto lithdilated. l2thverysmall.Pronotumabout
0.6timesaslongaswide.Elytrabroader,graduallywidenedposteriad fromhumerito
themiddle,thenalmostpara11el-sidedLwidestatapicaltwo-fifthsandroundedatanal
ends;costaelessprominentthaninmale.

Disc・usslon. The genus Viete//opis・gen nov. obviously resembles the genus
Megopls・SFRvlLLEingeneralappearance. Theysharesubcylindrical body,elongated
3rd antennal segment,deeply bilobedapical tarsal segments, andsoon. Themost
prominentdifferencebetweenthetwoisintheconformationofeyes, fourinVietetro-
ptsand two inMegopt.s. However、thismaynotbeso importantphytogeneticallyasit
appears,sincesomespeciesofthegenusMegoplshave fairlyemarginateeyelobes、
andsinceeacheyelobecanbedividedwhenthistendencyisdevelopedtoanextreme.
1,'ietet,-op!shasposteriorlytruncatedmetasternalepisterna;thiscanbemoreimportant
becauseithasbeenregardedasoneoftheimportantnon-megopine(non-aegosomine)
tribal characteristics. Vietett'optshascomplete12thantennal segments; 12-segmented
antennaeareoften foundinsometribesofthesubfamilyPrioninae, forexample, the
tribesPrionini, Acanathophorini, Anacolini, etc., but not in the tribeMegopini. The
malegenitalorganofViete//-oplsconsistsofdepressedandelongatedmedianlobeand
robust lateral lobes.Mostprioninegenerawiththe l2thantennalsegmentshaveshort
thickmedianlobeandrobustlateral lobes,withtheexceptionofsomegeneraofthe
tribeAnacolini. 0ntheother hand, thegenusMegop1'shasdepressedandelongated
medianlobeandslenderorsmall lateral lobes. Inmypresentopinion,thisnewgenus
had better be included in the tribe Anacolini LAMEERE for thepeculiarities of its
metastemalepisterna,12-segmentedantennaeandmalegenitalia,notwithstandingits
superficial resemblancetothegenusMegopls.However、sucharrangementraisesfur-
ther problem in including genera with extremely elongated 3rd antennal segment,
whichhasbeenregardedasanon-anacolinetribal feature,inthetribeAnacolini.Fur-
therinvestigationsareneeded fordrawingafinalconclusion.

美しい金 光沢をもつウスバカミキリに似た組が新たに発見された. 検litの結果, 多くの特徴
がウスバカミキリ属Megopisに似てぃるが, 後月?前側板が後方に狭まらないことなどの重要な
特微が異なり. 新属に所属すると考えられる. さらに, この特徴を重視すれば, ウスバカミキ
リ族Megopiniにも所属しないことになる. この を新属新相lVietelropisviridisとして記般する
とともに, この新属をii定的にコバネカミキリ族Anacoliniに含めておくことを提案する. この
新 は. 複長ll がl:下に完全に分かれた四ツllであることや, 12節の触角と細長い円簡形の体な
との特徴を合わせてもっことにより. ノコギリカミキリ,lll科の他のいかなる属からも容易に区
別できる.
