Abstract A new cerambycid beetle, Rosalia spic,!dells, isdescribed from
Sumatera, Indonesia. Itseemstobeaclose relativeof R ebel'thur1fromBorneo.
OnlyasinglespeciesbelongingtothegenusRosaliahashithertobeenknown
from Sumatera. It has been provisionally determined as Rosalia (E - 'batus)
novempunctatawhichwasoriginallydescribed fromEastJavaandbelongstothe
groupofR f()1・mosana.Recently, Ihadanopportunitytoexamineanadditional
RosaliaspeciesfromSumatera.ThoughsimilartoR novempunctatainthedorsal
maculation,thisspeciesnodoubtbelongstothegroupofR.oberthur1fromBorneo
becauseofsuchcommoncharactersasverythickantennalsegments3rdand4th
and theentirely bright orangebody beneath includingcoxae. After acareful
examination, theunknownspecieswasprovednewtoscience,andIamgoingto
describeitin thispaper.

Male. Bodybroadandrathershort,depressed,withsidesweaklynarrowed
posteriad.Colourorangethoughbrighterbeneath,blackonhead,appendagesand
last abdominal segment; pronotum maculated with three small black spots at
medic_apicalpart andsidesof themiddle;scutellumexcept for thebasalsides
black;elytronwithfourblackmaculations,ofwhichtwosmallspotsareonbasal
1/5ofsideandjustbeforebasal t/5ofdisc,arather largeobliquespotnearthe

middle,andalsoatransversebandinapical1/10;hindwingsorange,withblack
apical1/3.
Headrelativelysmall,lustrous,denselyandrather finelypunctateondorsum,
densely clothed with erect black pubescence, with triangular small orange
a
pubescent spot at occiput; vertex strongly raised, provided with a median
longitudinal furrowextendingtoocciput;gulascabrouslypunctateat theupper
halfthough rugoselysoat thelower half;clypeusalmost attened,withweakly
emarginateapicalmargin;mandiblesbroadbeak-shaped;eyesmoderateinsize.
Antennaeverythick inbasal foursegments,exceedingelytra1apexat themiddle
of7thsegment, relativelengthsofsegmentsasfollows:5.8:l:11.1:7.7:8.2:7.3:
6.7:6.7:6.4:6.0:11.0;scapeclavate, nitid, deeplyand ratherdenselypunctate;
pedicelrobust,widerthanlong;3rdand4thremarkablyrobust,denselygranulose;
3rd to6thateachapexprovidedwithanobliqueinnerspine, ofwhichtheone
onthe3rd isstoutandlong,alittlelessthan t/3thelengthofsegment, thatof
the4threlatively longandnearlystraight,thatofthe5thsmallandhooked,and
thatofthe6thvestiga1.

middle,strongly narrowedjust beforebase,andprovidedwithapair ofsmall
tuberclesatmiddleofsides;disc attened,sparselyclothedwith longerecthairs
nearbaseandapex.Scutellumtrapezoidal,slightlyconcaveatmiddle,glabrous.
Elytraabout2.1timesaslongasthehumeralwidth;sideswithsomewhatproduced
humeri,graduallyconvergenttoapiceswhichareobliquelyandarcuatelytruncate
withnarrowlyroundedinnerangle.Presternalprocessspatulate,notemarginate
at sides. Mesosterna1process rather broad,deeply and longitudinally concave
alongthemidline,nearlyparallel-sided,andabruptlybecomingnarrowertowards
forkedapex. Abdomendistinctlyandarcuatelyattenuateapicad,withapairof
shallow concavities at sides of sternites 3rd to 7th; 7th sternite broad and
semicircular;pygidiumfaintlyarcuatewithrounded corners.
Legsstout,denselyclothedwithpubescence; tibiaedistinctlydilatedapicad;
femorastoutandcompressed,abruptlythickenedatapices.
Malegenitaliaratherslender.Medianloberatherthininprofile;ventralplate
abruptly do exednearapexandacutelypointedat thetip. Tegmengently bent
ventradnearmiddle;paramerebroadandlong,narrowly roundedat theapices.
Female. Colourasinmale.Headandprothoraxsmaller.Antennaeslender,
exceedingelytra1apicesat9thsegment;segments3rd to8theachprovidedwith
obliquely hooked inner spine which gradually becomes smaller towards 8th
segment. Elytra2.2-2.4 times as long as wide. Presternal process broad and
nearly parallel-sided. Mesosterna1 process broad, rather strongly narrowed

要 約
苅部治紀:スマトラ島産べニボシカミキリの1新種. - スマトラのべニボシカミキリ属は,
これまで.Rnovempunctataと考えられる1種が知られていただけであったが, 今回スマトラ北部
3 から本属の別系統の種の標本がもたらされた. この種は角角ﾇ第 ・ 節4が非常に膨大すること
体下面が腹部末端を除き基節まで全面オレンジ色を呈することで, 他のべニボシカミキリ類か
ら容易に区別できる. このような特徴をもつ種としては, これまでボルネオに産するR.
oberthuri1種が知られていたが, これとは明らかに区別できるので, 本種を新極として命名記
載した.
