Franklin, in his autobiography, says, ""I printed a small number. It occasioned my being more considered by Mr. Palmeras ayoung man of some inge- nuity, though heseriouslyexpostulated with me upon the principles of my pamphlet." In a letterto his friend Benjamin Vaughan,he wroli, "There were onlya hundred FRANKLIN. II copies printed, of which I gavea few to friends; and afterwards ... burnt the rest, exceptone copy, ... I was not nineteen years ofage when it was written. In 1730, I wrote a piece on the other side of the question. ... This pamphlet was never printed." See "Notes and Queries," Jan. 3, 1852, from which it appears it was reprinted in sixteen pages. It has never been reprinted in any of the editions of Dr. Franklin's works.
