Hadjikakou was born in Famagusta, Cyprus. He graduated from the Chemistry Department of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. He was awarded a Ph.D. in chemistry in 1992. He was appointed to the position of Lecturer in Inorganic Chemistry in the University of Ioannina, Greece, where he is serving as Professor (since 2013). He has worked as a visiting researcher at the University of Dortmund, Germany and at the University of Essex in Colchester, UK.Hisresearchinterestsinthefieldofinorganicbiochemistrymainlyfocusondrug design and development from the modification of NSAIDs, antibiotics, or ingredient of natural products,fortargetedchemotherapy. HecurrentlycoordinatestheInternationalGraduateProgram ”Biological Inorganic Chemistry” and he is a member of the Editorial Board of the Section of BioinorganicChemistryinInt.J.Mol.Sci.(IJMS). Christina N. Banti received her bachelor’s degree in Biological Applications and Technologies, University of Ioannina, Greece in 2009. She was awarded a M.Sc. in Bioinorganic Chemistry, University of Ioannina, and obtained her Ph.D. from the Department of Physiology, School of Medicine,UniversityofIoannina,Greece.SheisnowaPostdoctoralResearcherandAdjunctLecturer oftheDepartmentofChemistry,UniversityofIoannina. Arguably,themostprominentdrugwhichcontainsametaliscisplatin,themostwidelyused anti-cancerdrug. Thesuccessofcisplatininchemotherapyandtheclarificationofitsmechanismof actionthroughinteractionwithDNAhasmotivatedalargenumberofstudiesonmetalcomplexes interactionwithnucleicacidsor/andDNA.FromtheforegoingthatthereaderofthisSpecialIssue willgainanappreciationoftherealroleoftheinteractionsofmetalcomplexeswithnucleicacids or/andDNAinmodernmedicine.
