3 SECTION1.PURPOSE.
4 ThepurposeoftliisActistoallowadequatetimefor
5 Congressto determine an appropriate long-term solution
6 forMedicarephysicianreimbursementrates.

1 SEC. 2. INCREASE IN MEDICARE PHYSICIAN PAYMENTS
2 THROUGH2009.
3 Section1848(d)oftheSocialSecurityAct(42U.S.C.
4 1395w-4(d)), asamendedbysection 101(a) oftheMedi-
5 care,Medicaid,andSCHIPExtensionActof2007(Public
6 Law 110-173), is amendedbyaddingattheendthefol-
7 lowingnewparagraph:
8 "(9) Update for remainder of 2008 and
9 FOR2009.

10 "(A) In general. Subjecttoparagraphs
11 (7)(B) and (8)(B), in lieu ofthe update to the
12 single conversion factor estabhshed in para-
13 graph(1)(C)thatwouldotherwiseapply
14 "(i)for2008,fortheperiodbeginning
15 onJuly 1, 2008, andendingonDecember
16 31, 2008, theupdateto the single conver-
17 sionfactorshallbe1.0percent;or
18 "(ii) for 2009, the update to the sin-
19 gle conversion factor shall be 1.8 percent.
20 "(B) No EFFECT on COMPUTATION OF
21 CONVERSION FACTOR FOR 2010 AND SUBSE-

22 QUENT YEARS. The conversion factor under
23 this subsection shall be computed under para-
24 graph(1)(A)—

"(i) for 2009, treating the update
undersubparagraph (A)(i) as ifit had ap-
phedfortheentireperiodof2008;and
"(ii) for 2010 and subsequent years
as if subparagraph (A) had never ap-
phed.".
