With the recent increase in the number of Junior Subscribers, we now have 183 in this membership category. Taken together with our Sporting Subscriber complement, which under the Club Articles is limited to 75, we are now well placed to compete at all levels and in all of the Club’s sports. Looking to the future, the General Committee (GC) has recently endorsed in principle, a proposal from the sporting sections to seek changes to the Club Articles which would allow an increase in the number of Sporting Subscribers to 125. Details are now being worked out and it is this GC’s intention to seek Members’ approval at an EGM in early 2016. Talking of EGMs, at the time of writing it remains our intention to hold an EGM at the end of October/early November to seek Members’ approval for a number of changes to the Articles which have been necessitated by recent amendments to the Companies Ordinance, including provision for proxy voting. As reported by our General Manager, repairs to the swimming pool building should be completed shortly. I would like to take this opportunity to thank three Club Members, Peter Lowther, Dave Parkin and Peter Fraser who have volunteered their time and expertise to ‘look after’ the Club’s interests in connection with this project. Thanks are also due to the Management team and members of the Development Sub-Committee. All of your assistance is much appreciated. Continuing in a similar vein, thanks are also due to the two members of the Security Working Group, Mike Dowie and Bill Thomas for all their efforts in undertaking a comprehensive review of all aspects of security in the Club. The practical results of their report have already borne fruit, particularly in recent disciplinary proceedings. Having just enjoyed a pleasant visit to the Singapore Cricket Club, I would like to remind all Members and Subscribers that we have a large number of reciprocal clubs spread all over the world. If you wish to take advantage of this arrangement and visit one of these clubs, please contact Wendy Lam in the Club Office ([email protected]) to obtain the necessary documentation prior to travelling.
