Represent these problems using equations with a letter standing for the unknown quantity. Assess the reasonableness of answers using mental computation and estimation strategies including rounding. This resource includes 40 task cards, student answer sheets, and answer keys that can be used by students, or by the teacher. Answer sheets are presented in ten question sections. Each answer area gives room for students to show their work. This allows teachers to see how students are thinking about the problem. Students do not show work on multiple-choice questions unless directed by the teacher. The questions can be given in multiples of ten, or teachers can choose the cards they wish to use by putting a 1/4 inch sticky dot over the task card number, then numbering as they choose. These sticky dots are often used at garage sales and are available in most grocery stores. Copy on card stock, laminate, and they are good for years of use. Task cards can be printed in black and white to save on ink. Task card can be used in many ways: • Centers and/or stations…since task cards can be done in any order, they are easy to share. • In pairs or small groups • Whole class a. Quick review before going home, or to specials b. Teacher reads question, students write answers on white board c. Use as an assessment. Task cards don’t feel like a test, so test phobic students are more relaxed. d. Use one task card as the “hook” for starting/reviewing a math concept with the class • Games • Independent work at seats • Send home for homework as reinforcement for students needing remediation Table of Contents Page 1 Cover Page………………………… Page 2 Thank You/Credits……………… Page 3 Teacher Notes…………………… Page 4 Table of Contents………………… Page 5-14 Task Cards………………………… Page 15-18 Student Answer Sheets…………… Page 19-22 Grading Keys………………………… Page 23 Copyright Statement…………… … … 1.
