2016 SAPA-GP Annual Conference Greetings from Conference Co-Chairs Dear SAPA‐GP Members and Friends: It is our distinct honor to welcome you to the 2016 Sino‐American Pharmaceutical Professionals Association ‐ Greater Philadelphia (SAPA‐GP) Annual Conference! The fiscal year of 2015‐2016 is a year of reflection and transformation for SAPA‐GP. As an organization with 14 years of steady growth, we must evolve to tackle new challenges arising from tremendous changes in the pharmaceutical industry and the healthcare system in the US and China. To this end, the Senior Leadership Team of SAPA‐GP met with our Advisory Committee in February 2016 and developed strategies to position SAPA‐GP for a sustained growth and expanded influence. We are excited to present this year’s annual conference with a brand new format and venue. In addition to our traditional scientific sessions to showcase cutting edge science and strategies to bring innovative drugs to patients, we are introducing three workshops to address urgent needs in the biopharmaceutical industry. We have moved to the conference center of Sheraton Valley Forge Hotel to provide easier access and larger capacity for the workshops featuring Venture Investing & Business Development, Gaining Access to Markets in US & China, and Leadership Development & Job Fair. We believe that these changes will bring extraordinary new experience to you at the 2016 Annual Conference. To promote in‐depth scientific exchange between industry and academia, we adopted a practice of limited enrollment and invited experts in the field to a one‐day scientific symposium with the theme of “Precision Medicine – A New Paradigm of Therapeutics” in December 2015. The feedback from the audience was overwhelmingly positive. In recent years, SAPA‐GP has relished having a large body of student volunteers who have brought new energy and skills to our working group. It is our responsibility to reach out and provide training and mentorship to the students who will blossom and become future leaders and managers. Following a series of popular workshops at University of Pennsylvania in the past, we worked with Columbia University Medical Center – Chinese Student and Scholar Association (CUMC‐CSSA) and Career China and organized the first SAPA‐GP led Student Career Development Workshop at Columbia University campus in October 2015. This event not only addressed the pressing needs of the students, but also opened up opportunities for SAPA‐GP to expand our membership base in New York City area. Building strong partnerships with leading organizations in US and China is vital to the sustainability of SAPA‐GP. This year, we contributed to the DIA China Annual Meeting through collaboration with DIA China and Zhengzhou International Biotech Conference through working with the Chinese Association of Pharmaceutical Sciences and other partners. Importantly, we continued to strengthen our relationships with long‐term partners including China Pharmaceutical Technology Transfer Center (CPTTC) and WuXi AppTec in Shanghai. We have also initiated discussions around long‐term collaboration with several other organizations including Tianjin Economic and Development Area, Nantong Overseas Returned Scholars Association and Hualan Biologics. At this conference, we are 1 2016 SAPA-GP Annual Conference welcoming an unprecedented number of senior executives and leading academic researchers from China and we treasure the opportunities to deepen our relationships. This year, we have also stepped up our effort at reaching out to the Inclusion & Diversity Councils and Human Resources of large pharmaceutical companies in the area. We are now in a very good position to establish potential long‐term relations with several of these large companies to provide direct access to some of the best job opportunities for our members and ultimately help these companies drive their business success as well. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our leadership team and working group members for your outstanding contributions. We also want to thank our sponsors, past leaders, friends and family members of SAPA‐GP for your generosity and support; you all made our jobs so much easier and more impactful. Enjoy the conference!
