Looking back on the last eight years, it is amazing to look at the changes we have made in our herd. We think we have made a lot of progress towards providing some nice Angus bulls for you, our customers. Each year we continue to refine our breeding program and criteria; selecting sires that bring superior traits to our herd. Our goal is to use genetics that will make you more money in the commercial herd. We know you can get great genetics from many breeders, but we believe good Angus bulls that are raised here in our rocky, dry, tough country have added value. MLL bulls know prickly pear, burro grass and chamisa and are grown out in large rocky traps; so they are in good condition to go to work. Our bulls are young but they were raised here and will work in this environment with little transition time. We appreciate your support at our sales and the confidence you have in our animals. Thank you, Houston Sarah Houston McKenzie Sarah McKenzie Downing President, McKenzie Land & Livestock Herd Manager 8th Annual Angus Bull Sale Tuesday, March 18, 2014 Sale Terms and Conditions Sale order: Bulls will sell in the order listed in the catalog. EPDs are expressed in units of measure for the trait, plus or minus. Interim EPDs may appear on young animals when their performance has yet to be incorporated into the American Angus Association National Cattle Evaluation (NCE) procedures. This EPD will be preceded by an "I", and may or may not include the animal's own performance record for a particular trait, depending on its availability, appropriate contemporary grouping, or data edits needed for NCE. $Value Indexes, are multi-trait selection indexes, expressed in dollars per head, to assist beef producers by adding simplicity to genetic selection decisions. Genetic Defect Information We test all the bulls registered and commercial) raised on the Fort Stockton ranch for any genetic defects that they may be at risk of carrying. Testing is done through Zoetis Genetics and the genetic status is listed in the notes section. You will see that we have tested some animals for the following: AM(Arthogryposis Multiplex), CA(Contractural Arachnodactyly), NH(Neuropathic Hydrocephalus) and DD(Developmental Duplication). We have made a practice of culling animals that are carriers for AM, CA and NH so only a few of the bulls will have to be tested for these defects and will be noted by having the defect abbreviation followed by a “F” for example: CAF. We do not routinely sell defect carriers; the only carriers that you will find in the sale will be DD carriers. All other animals will be listed as “F”. We cannot guarantee defect status of Palma bulls, as they are strictly a commercially produced animal, but in a commercial setting there should be little risk of defect expression. New Defect: DD Most recently a new defect called Developmental Duplication (DD) has been found in the breed. DD is a simply inherited, recessive genetic condition that can cause (although not always) an affected animal to be born with an extra front limb. While this is recognized as a genetic defect and is known to be simply inherited; it is not required to test for this defect prior to registration. (Please see additional information on DD). We have tested any of our bulls that could be a potential carrier. There are several top bulls in this sale that are DDC (DD Carriers); but we feel that the risk of this defect actually showing up in a registered herd is manageable and poses little risk for the commercial producer. Carriers will be noted in the notes section as DDC. 8th Annual Angus Bull Sale Tuesday, March 18, 2014 Lot G A R PREDESTINED Lot B3R TENDER TEN R065 AI AI DOB:08/16/99 Bull # 13395344 Tattoo:5899 DOB:11/06/05 Bull 15327898 Tattoo: R065 V D A R New Trend 315 $W +47.64 B3R 8082 3173 Elector 4013 $W +38.46 Sire: B/R New Design 036 $F +35.74 Sire: B3R 0004 Electra 8082-8017 $F +2.99 B/R Blackcap Empress 76 B3R 8017 466 Lady 7164 N Bar Emulation EXT $G +52.25 Finks 5522-6148 $G +20.42 Dam: G A R Ext 4206 $YG +3.24 Dam: B3R N127 5522 Blackbird 203 $YG -12.52 G A R 6807 Traveler 1432 $B +101.10 B3R Blackbird 2075 P $B +55.91 $EN +7.41 $EN+13.54 CED BW WN YR SC Milk CW Marb RE Fat CED BW WN YR SC Milk CW Marb RE Fat + 2 + 4.0 + 51 + 91 + 0.56 + 28 + 32 + 1.39 + 0.59 + 0.037 + 18 -3.3 + 30 + 56 + 0.47 + 25 + 21 + 0.66 -0.21 + 0.076 Act.
