She values kids with potential, not always the perfect ones. Her “incredible memory” allows her to immediately connect siblings and make people comfortable. Sheisverypersonable,alwayshelp- ful, andimmersesherselfintheschool. She is veryconsiderate ofothers, is honest and dependable, and her feed- back comes as constructive criticism ratherthan harsh negativecomments. She always follows up on kids to see how they are doing. Many will comment that her degree ofcaring is unusual. She was “stolen” from the lower school because she is so nice. This year’s Hallmark is dedicated to one of RHSM’s treasures, Karen Hyde. J 2 March 2000 2, Dear Class of 2000, CONGRATULATIONS on yourmany successes here at Rowland Hall - St. Mark’s School. Some of you have had sixteen years of Rowland Hall-St. Mark’s School experiences and fourofyou have had just one. As a class you have continued to incorporate new students into your group. You have had many successes in academics, athletics and the arts, but none ofthem have been as important as the individual growth you have made as people. 1 have worked with a number ofyou individually and watched you handle yourselves with grace and dignity. I wish you the best as you head offto colleges and other post graduate activities, and I thank you for helping to make Rowland Hall — St. Mark’s School a better place. I also wish to thank your fellow upper schoolers, who have helped you in your successes and have helped the school progress through their participation in activities, just as you have. You leave the student government in good hands with a great group of students following in your footsteps. I wish all the upper schoolers a relaxing summer and a terrific first year of the new millennium, or last year of the old one, depending on how you want to look at the calendar. Whichever way you look at it, the class of2000 is an outstanding group of individuals. Best ofluck. Come back and visit us often. Sincerely, Alan C. Sparrow Headmaster 3 Rowland Mall St Mark’s School - 843 Lincoln Street Salt Lake City, Utah 84102, 801 /355-7494, FAX 801/ 355-0474 , Mary Ann Rees Upper School Principal January 2000 12, Dear Class of 2000, My buddy Katie Eyre just caught me in the hall and asked if I would write a letter to you for the yearbook. I felt, I am sure, the same way you often do. I had just "handed in" the cover letter for the February Hallmarker, as well as an article for the body of the newsletter. "I'm through with my homework," I had thought smugly. Katie was now giving me another assignment. But how could I let her down? "Sure," I said, after making certain she knew I was being put upon. I enjoyed the grousing but jumped at the opportunity to congratulate such a terrific bunch of seniors. Truly, your class is remarkable. Your ranks hold multi-talented scholars, athletes, dancers, artists, musicians, and vocalists. You have honored Rowland Hall-St. Mark's Upper School with your achievements and will go on to honor your respective colleges and universities. Tony Larimer always urged the RHSM graduates to tackle new interests in college, to take a course that was not required for their major, to broaden their experiences. I challenge you to do the same. And then I hope to hear about it. Make an effort to stay in touch with our Alumni Association. That way we can hear about whatever all it, it is! Please know how important you have been to all of your teachers. You gave us warm memories, funny stories, and assorted anecdotes. Lucky you, to participate in commencement ceremonies this year. You will never have to say, "Now when did graduate from high school?" I Congratulations, Class of 2000. Carry on with the verve we have come to expect of you.
