Well, just what the heck is Some of you will say “It’s a weekly news magazine.” and some will say “I don’t know.” and some will say, “Don’t waste my time.” yet you can’t explain what time is. We will try to explain. In our society, Time is ... well let me see, hum, well time is , ah... Well let me put it this way time is ..uh. I know- Time is a’wastin’, Time is of the essence, Time is money, Time to get it on. Wait let’s go back in time and see how time has affected your life, (we can’t really do this, but let’s pretend) Shortly before you were born (very shortly), your mother said, “Honey, I think it’s time.” When your father asked the hospital staff what was happening, they said, “Any time now.” After you were born there was time for lots of new and exciting things. “It’s nappy time. ” “It’s time to change that diaper.” “Time for din-din.” As you got older, let’s say about eight, you learned how to manage your time, but your parents orerrode your decision. This was totally unfair because any kid knows that if you watch TV until 10:30 you have plenty of time to do three hours of homework in 30 minutes. Then your parents hit you with the big one, it’s time for bed. Ahhh Mom, why do I have to go to bed? Jimmie’s (or Sue’s, or Kip’s, or Mark’s etc..) Mom let’s them stay up until (11, 12, 1, 2) or whatever time you had time to think of. A little later in life, one of your parents will say, “It’s TIME we had a talk.” This is the time for the infamous birds & bees stuff. After this, everything changes. Because from here on you start getting new and wondferful time messages. “Isn’t it time you cleaned your room without me telling you to.” “Isn’t it time you were looking for a JOB.” “It’s time to get up ” And when you do something right, considerate, and on your own initiative you here, “Well it’s about time.” In school you learn that time is something to ... Wait, let’s have a pop quiz. Time is_. a. to waste b. unimportant c. to squander doing things like playing, talking for hours on the phone with a boy/girl friend who lives in another state, (which means that when your parents get the phone bill you will here, “I think it’s time we put some limits on that kid.”) to wander the halls talking with that special someone who you won’t be able to stand next month. d. part of a famous commercial, “If you’ve got the time. We’ve got the ....” Gotcha, It’s a Trick question! Time is not the same for everyone but we all go through it at the same time so there is no correct answer, (although I bet that most of you picked 'c') Well, Time has certainly changed since you were young, so in the years to come; when it’s rime to reflect, Time to look back, take the time to look back at the good Times, the sad Times, the growing up Times, the play Times, the Times of learning, the Times of yearning, the Times of friendships made and lost, the Times of Change 4 Theme • dedication Miss Willett All of us have had a teacher who has really made an impact on our life. That teacher who made such an impact was usually kind, caring, somewhat strict and was always there when you needed them to be. All of these traits are true of the dedicatee, plus many others, that made Miss Willett the teacher to whom the 1993 Centurion is dedicated. When you walk into Miss Willett’s clasroom you take a step into the real world. There are teachers who teach strictly by the book, but you won’t find that in Miss Willett’s class. There is always some book work but there is always room for classroom discussion. Classroom discussions give the stu¬ dents a chance to voice their opinions and get other points of view from their peers. These discussions are interest¬ ing for everybody involved with them. This idea of sharing is to get people to think and to listen to other students’ ideas no matter how strange or differ¬ ent they may seem. Miss Willett teaches Political Sys¬ tems, Lawmaking and Criminal Jus¬ tice, and Psychology. She is also one of our dedicated senior advisors. You have probably seen her at the Homecoming event, I’m sure that you saw her. She was dressed for the ocassion and if there was a contest for best costume for a faculty member she would have won hands down. Dedication • 5 ACATIO W inter or summer, vacation time is an important part of our lives. We have come to see these times as a necessary time to restore our psychie, to replenish our intellectual spirit, to go skiing, to go to the beach and catch some rays, to just hang with some bud¬ dies, to be cool. For some, vacaton time is just another time to go to work to get those big bucks Beach babes... p ..
