MarcGarneauwasnamedCarleton University'sninth chancellorin2003.
Dr.Garneau'sfirstcareerwasintheCanadian Navy. In 1983, hewasselected
asanastronautandbecamethefirstCanadiantoflyinspace in 1984. Heflew
ontwoothermissionsbeforebecomingtheexecutivevice-presidentandthen
presidentoftheCanadian SpaceAgency. Dr. Garneau ranfortheQuebec
Liberalsinthe2006federal election intheridingofVaudreuil-Soulanges. He
becameanofficeroftheOrderofCanada in 1984andwaspromotedtothe
rankofcompanion in2003.

chairoftheDepartmentofSystemsandComputerEngineeringfor10years
anddeanfrom 1998to2006, Dr. Mahmoudtransformedthefacultyintoone
ofCarleton'sflagshipprograms. Hewasactingprovostandvice-president
