Description:Despite the thousands of years in which humans have looked at the sun, studied it, and even
worshipped it, we have learned more in the last two decades than in the previous millennia
combined. Data and images from satellites such as the Solar Dynamics Observatory (below) have
allowed us to literally see our star in a new light, as we can see in numerous ultraviolet and x-ray
wavelengths. Most importantly, these satellites have opened the door for progress, understanding,
imagination… and controversy.
