Processes involving water-rock interactions occur in nearly all environments, both surface and sub-surface. Understanding these processes improves our knowledge of natural systems and may provide solutions to environmental problems. The Tenth Water-Rock Symposium in Italy in 2001 brought together 450 leading geochemists, hydrologists and hydrochemists from 45 countries.
