Export Sales Highlights This summary is based on reports from exporters for the period November 18-24, 1994. Wheat: Net sales of 288,600 metric tons (MT) were 4 percent below the previous week’s level and one-third under the 4-week average. Major increases reported for Japan (80,000 MT), Jordan (50,000 MT), Egypt (49,400 MT), Indonesia (40,000 MT), and Venezuela (33,100 MT) were partially offset by reductions of 101,000 MT for unknown destinations. Exports of 759,900 MT were 8 percent above the week earlier and 15 percent over the 4-week average. The primary destinations were Egypt (262,100 MT), Pakistan (123,000 MT), Japan (60,000 MT), South Korea (47,900 MT), the Philippines (36,500 MT), Bangladesh (31,500 MT), and Mexico (30,300 MT). Corn: Sales of 1,560,800 MT were down 6 percent from the previous week’s level, but up 38 percent from the 4-week average. The major increases were recorded for Japan (500,800 MT), South Korea (310,000 MT), Taiwan (252,300 MT), unknown destinations (246,200 MT), and Spain (144,100 MT). Exports of 1,160,700 MT-a marketing-year high-were one-third over the week earlier and one-fifth over the 4-week average. The principal recipients were Japan (301,300 MT), Taiwan (237,300 MT), South Korea (163,000 MT), Mexico (116,700 MT), and Iran (61,300 MT). Barley: Sales of 35,000 MT were all to China. There were no exports reported. Sorghum: Sales of 59,200 MT were down 64 percent from the week earlier and 59 percent below the 4-week average. Major increases were posted for Japan (27,400 MT) and Mexico (22,500 MT). Exports of 133,200 MT were 14 percent above the previous week and 1 percent over the 4-week average. Mexico (73,600 MT) and Japan (42,400 MT) were the primary destinations. Rice: Sales of 43,000 MT were up 45 percent from the previous week, but down 44 percent from the 4-week average. The major buyer was Brazil (15,900 MT-all rough), with smaller purchases for Lebanon (7,400 MT), Haiti (7,200 MT), South Africa (2,400 MT), Tajikistan (2,200 MT), Mexico (1,600 MT, of which 1,000 MT was rough), Saudi Arabia (1,400 MT), Barbados (1,300 MT), and Canada (1,100 MT). Exports of 88,900 MT were 8 percent short of the week earlier and 6 percent under the 4-week average. The major destinations were Brazil (36,200 MT) and Turkey (15,800 MT), followed by Haiti (7,200 MT), the Netherlands (6,000 MT), Mexico (4,900 MT), and Saudi Arabia (3,800 MT). Soybeans: Net sales of 308,000 MT were two-fifths below the prior week’s level and the 4-week average. The major increases were for Japan (87,100 MT), the Netherlands (54,800 MT), Taiwan (31,900 MT), Mexico (31,800 MT), and unknown destinations (31,400 MT). Exports of 309,900 MT were off 56 percent from the previous week and 49 percent from the 4-week average. Japan (108,500 MT), Belgium (56,500 MT), France (38,200 MT), and Spain (35,800 MT) were the primary recipients. Soybean Cake and Meal: Net sales of 6,600 MT were the smallest of the marketing year. Major increases for Canada (16,800 MT), El Salvador (7,300 MT), and Yemen (4,000 MT) were partially offset by reductions of 28,000 MT for unknown destinations. Exports of 66,200 MT were one-third below the previous week and the 4-week average. Shipments were mainly to Byelarus (23,000 MT), Canada (14,300 MT), and Australia (10,200 MT). Soybean Oil: Sales of 60,000 MT were primarily the result of increases for unknown destinations (33,100 MT), Tunisia (11,400 MT), the Dominican Republic (7,500 MT), and China (4,000 MT). Exports of 4,100 MT were to Haiti (3,000 MT) and Mexico (1,100 MT). Cotton: Upland sales of 1,558,200 running bales (RB) were the second highest of the marketing year, behind the week ending October 6 with 2,950,800 RB. The major increases were for unknown destinations (807,300 RB), Japan (171,100 RB), China (135,000 RB), Mexico (98,700 RB), Indonesia (60,300 RB), and South Korea (59,700 RB). Sales for the 1995/96 marketing year of 884,700 RB were primarily for unknown destinations (822,300 RB). Exports of 135,700 RB were up 29 percent from the prior week and 37 percent from the 4-week average. Asian destinations accounted for 83 percent of the week’s shipments; Western Hemisphere, 9 percent; East European, 5 percent; and West European, 3 percent. Hides and Skins: Sales of 223,800 pieces were one-fifth below the preceding week’s level and 30 percent under the 4-week average. Whole cattle hide sales of 214,700 pieces were primarily for South Korea (118,700 pieces). Exports of 221,900 pieces were 31 percent lower than the previous week and 35 percent less than the 4-week average. Whole cattle hide shipments of 211,300 pieces were destined primarily for South Korea (84,400 pieces), Japan (43,200 pieces), and Taiwan (33,300 pieces). Sales of 16,200 wet blue hides were down 44 percent from the previous week’s level and 52 percent from the 4-week average. The major buyers were Thailand (7,800 unsplit) and Italy (6,200 grain split). Exports of 18,500 hides were off one-half from the prior week and the 4-week average. The primary destinations were Italy (5,900 unsplit) and South Korea (3,600 grain split and 2,200 unsplit). Net sales of splits totaling 1,734,900 pounds were nearly two and one-fifth times the prior week, but 12 percent below the 4-week average. Hong Kong (1,023,700 pounds) and South Korea (757,300 pounds) were the dominant buyers. Reductions of 45,800 pounds were reported for Spain. Exports of 2,571,200 pounds were one-fifth above the week earlier and two-thirds above the 4-week average. Hong Kong (1,104,600 pounds) and South Korea (1,019,300 pounds) were the leading destinations, followed by Taiwan (203,600 pounds) and Spain (167,700 pounds).
