Abstract TwonewspeciesoftheanthribidgenusPc,・thatIvsaredescribedfrom
northernVietnamandSabah,BorneounderthenamesofR/111-o、lata1・t1(fromN.Vietnam)
and slに1lkii(fromBorneo). Like beeson1JoRD^NknownfromNorthIndia,bothhave
relativelyshortantennaeeveninthemale.
Thegenus Pet・ibathysJORDANbelongs to thepeculiar tribe, Xenocerini, recog-
nizedonhavingvery longsecondandveryshortthirdantennalsegmentsinthemale.
MembersofthisgenusaredistributedtonorthernIndia,Sumatra,Borneo, Indochina,
southeasternChina,Taiwan,OkinawaandAmami-0shima.Elevenspecieshavehith-
ertobeenknown fromtheseareas.
ThroughthecourtesyofDr.T. HIRowATARI,OsakaPrefectural University, I have
hadanopportunitytoexaminearelativelysmallspeciesofPerlbat1/vs. Itwascollected
byhimselfwithalight trapatanaltitudeofabout930monMt. TamDao,northern
Vietnam.Anotherspeciesof thesamegenuscollected fromSabah, Borneo was re-
centlysubmittedtome for taxonomic researchbyDr.W.SUZUKI,Hosei University
Daini HighSchool. Afteracareful examination, it becameapparent that both the
specieshadnotbeendescribedtheretofore.Theywillbenamedinthepresentpaper.

Length:11.8mm(fromapicalmarginofrostrumtoapicesofelytra).
Male. Body relativelysmall,about3.l timesaslongaswide, includingros-
trum.Colourentirelyblack.Pubescencedense,palebrown,whiteandblack,andform-

ingleopard-brindledpatchesondorsalsurface,palebrownalmostalloverventralsur-
face;prothoraxwithabroadblackstripeoneachlateralsideinclusiveoflateralcarina;
elytrawithwhitestripesandsmallblackpatchesonoddintervals;eachof2ndto4th
visiblesterniteswithtwopairsofsmallblackpatches,but theinneroneissomewhat
obscure,5thwithapairofsmallerones;pygidiumcoveredwithpalebrownhairs;legs
mottledLwithblackbandsinapicalpartsandatthebasal fourthofeachtibia,eachof
theapicalbandsofmedianandposteriortibiaeformingaring,withablackringinapi-
calthirdofeach1sttarsalsegment,andwithonefromapicalhalftotwo-thirdsof2nd
to5thexcept formedianhalfof5th,whichisawhitering.
Headwithadeeplongitudinalsulcusbetweeneyes,whichisbifurcatein frontof
theinterocularpart;eyeswellconvexabove,relativelythickcrescent-shaped;rostrum
short,graduallywidenedtowardsapexwhereitisabout2.9timesaswideastheshort-
estdistancebetweeneyes,andwitharelativelylongmedianridgeinfrontoftheinter-
ocularpart,which isbifurcatebetweenantennalscrobes,stronglyemarginateat the
middleofanteriormargin. Antennaerelativelyshort,about13timesas longasthe
lengthofbody,apicalfifthof2ndswollen,apicalthirdof2ndtobasalhalfof5thcom-
pressedandbearingpityhairsononeside,basal fourthof4thandof5th,andapical
halfof 8th tobasal thirdof9thcoveredwithwhitehairs, apical two-thirdsof9th to

Legsmoderatelylong;anteriorfemurshorterthanthemedianwhichisnearlyaslong
asthePosterior;anterior,medianandposterior tibiaesubequa1inlengthtoonean_
other;anteriortarsusshorterthantheposteriorwhichisshorterthanthemedian.

Notes. In general appearance, this species somewhat resembles Pet・ibatり/ ,s
beesoniJORDAN,1937,describedfromKurseong,NE.India,butcanbedistinguished
f「omthelatterbythefollowingcharacteristics:3rdsegmentofantennanotmorethan
twiceaslongasbroad,apicalthirdof2ndtobasalhalfof5thbearingpityhairsonone

Thisspecimenwascollectedwithalight trap(mercurylamp)atanaltitudeof
about930monMt.TamDao.ThespecificnameisgiveninhonourofDr.HIRowATARl

connectedwitheachlateralcarina,thelatterhorizontallyextendingtosubapicalpartof
sidemargin;carinuladistinct,barelyreachingdorsaltransversecarina.Scutellumcov-
eredwithwhitishhairs.Elytraoblongandthick,about 176timesas longaswide,
widestat theapical two-fifths;stria1puncturessmall, theirdiametersmaller thanthe
widthsbetweenthem.Pygidiumsubtrapezoida1,about14timesaswideaslong,lat-
eralmarginsgradually convergent towards truncatedapex,strongly re?exed through-
out;discswolleninbasal three-fourths.
Presternalprocesstriangular,stronglydepressedatthebase;mesosterna1process
relativelythin,graduallynarrowedtowardsroundedapex,andbendingbackwardsat

Notes. This species issimilar to p bro、l,loomisSENoHdescribed from Sabah,
Borneo,butcanbedistinguished fromthelatterby the followingcharacteristics:me-
dianridgein frontoftheinterocularpartveryshort;antennaewithnopityhair; lateral
sidesofpronotumsubpara11e1;pygidiumsubtrapezoidal;stemiteswithoutmaculation;
andsoon.ThepresentspeciesisdedicatedtoDr.WataruSUZUKI ofHosei University
DainiHighSchool,whoalwayscooperatedwithmeincollectingSoutheastAsianan-
thribids.
要 約
妹尾俊男:ベトナムおよびボルネオから発見されたマダラオオヒゲナガゾウムシ属の2新
種. - マダラオオヒゲナガソ'ウムシ属の種類は, 北インド, スマトラ, ボルネオ, インド
1, シナ, 中国南東部, 台湾, 沖系おdよび奄美大島に分イ1しJ 現 在までにこれらの地域から 1極 が
知られている. 最近, 広渡俊 , 鈴木互両専t 士のご好意により, 北ベトナムおよびボルネオ
で採集されたこの属に含まれる2極を検する機会に恵まれた. 北ベトナムの種は, 北インドか
ら記載された beesontJORDANに比較的よく似てぃるが, 前用l??の両側に幅広い縦じまの毛斑を
有する, 触角の第2節から第5節にかけての片面に毛ばだった毛群を有し, また第6節と第7節
, に白色毛をク、、.く, さらに前1; ・板w基部の carinulがa存在する な どの明確な識別点により新種
と判断されたので, F)hi,・owataritと命名し, 記載した. 一方, ボルネオの種は, 同じくボルネ
オから記載されているF' b,-e、,icorn,sSENoHに似ているが, 口吻基部の中央隆起線がきわめて短
い, 触角に毛ばだった毛群一をもたない, 前胸の両側はほぼ平行, 尾節板は台形,月望部順板に毛

斑をもたない, などの明確な識別点によりこの種も新極と判断されたので, Ps,にuki,と命名し,
記1做した.
