Introduction ThegenusPodabrusWESTWOOD,1840comprisesthelargestnumberofspeciesin theJapaneseCantharidae. ThesubgenusAs1opodabrusWITTMER,1982occupiesthe most partof this genus,61specieshavingbeen knownup tothepresent fromthe Japaneseterritory(TAKAHAsHI,1998).Ofthese,severalspeciespossessalmostblack elytra. Theyclosely resembleeachother ingeneralappearance,thoughconsistingof variouslineages fromthesystematicviewpoint. Inthispaper, Iamgoingtodescribethreenewblackishspeciesofthesubgenus. Oneofthemdoubtlessresemblesf)(A)kadov、,akiiNAKANEetMAKINo,1989,sothatit shouldbelongtotheP.(4.)kadowakiigroup.Theremainderscertainlybelongtothe1) (A)macilentusgroup inviewofgeneralconformationoftheirmalegenitalia. How- ever,thegenitalicorgansaresopeculiarthatnocloserelativesofthemareknownat thepresenttime. IwillthereforerecognizetwonewlineagesintheP(A)macilentus group forthetwonewspecies. Descriptions Podabrus(4siopodabrus)kusamaispnov. [Japanesename:Kusama-kubibosojokai] (Figs.1,4) Male. Relativelysmallspecies.Bodyalmostbrownishblack;headbeforeeyes, antennalsegments1-2,bothsidesofpronota1margin,prosternum,coxae,and inner sidesofforefemoraandforetarsiyellowishbrown.Elytrasomewhatlustrous. Headscatteredwith finepuncturesin front,closelypunctatebehindeyes,and somewhatrugoselysoonneck.Antennaerelativelyshort,reachingbasal fourthofely- tra;comparativelengthofeachsegmentasfollows:- 1.87:1.7:1:1.25:1.28:1.2:1.2: 12: 1.28: 1.22: 1.43. . pronotum relatively narrow, clearly narrower than head, widest at middle; pw/Hw0.81(0.81-0.92),PW/PL1.04(0.93-1.07),PW/PA t4(1.34-1.57),PW/PB 1.08(1.06_1.13);surfacecloselycoveredwithsmallpunctures, thoughthepunctures becomesomewhat largeronbasalhalfandinanteriormarginalarea; frontalandbasal marginsnearlystraight,lateralonesslightlysinuate,anterioranglesalittleangulate andposterioronesslightlyprominent;discwellelevatedexcept for lateralmar9ins, thoughslightlyandcircularlyconcaveinbasalhalfElytrarelativelyshort,widerthan pronotum; EW/pW l44 (1.36-1.56), EL/EW3.21(3.05-3.27). Front andmiddle clawscleft,innerteethofhindonesenlarged,triangularlyprojectedapicad. Malegenitaliasomewhatelongate;1aterophyses1ongandslender,withrounded apjces;ventralprocesssomewhatlong,withclearlyroundedapices,innersidesslightly concave;dorsalprocessveryshort(Fig 4). Length:4.4(4.4-5.l)mm;breadth:0.9(0.9-1.1)mm. Female. Notdiscriminatedfromthoseofotherrelatedspecies. (A) kadowakii NAKANEetMAKINo,1989 from theOki IslandsandP(A) kasugensisNAKANEel MAKIN0, l989 fromMt.Kasuga,NaraPrefecture,butcanbedistinguishedfromthe fo「merbytheshorterdorsalprocessofthemalegenitalia,andfromthelatterbythe me「elustrouselytra.Judgingfromthestructureofthemalegenitalia,thisnewspecjes shouldbeincludedinthe1:)(A)kadowakiigroup. Pronotum relatively narrow, clearly narrower than head, widest at middle; PW/HW0.82(0.76-0.85),PW/PL1.05(1.01-1.05),PW/PA t47(1.39-1.48),PW/PB 1.02(1.01-1.07);surfacecloselycoveredwithmoderatepunctures,thoughthepunc- turesbecomelargeronbasalhalf;lateralmarginssinuate,anterioranglesalittleangu- lateandposterioronesprominent;discwellelevatedexceptforlateralmargins,though slightly and circularly concave inbasal half. Elytrasomewhatslender, wider than pronotum; EW/PW 158 (1.56-1.66), EL/EW 3.50 (3.41-3.83). Front andmiddle clawscleft,innerteethofhindonesenlarge triangularlyprojectedapicad. Malegenitaliaelongate;ventralprocessshort,withsomewhatacuteapices;dorsal processlongandrobust,V-shape gentlycurvedinwards,denselyprovidedwith long hairsoninnersides(Fig5). Length:7.0(6.9-7.8)mm;breadth:1.4(1.4-1.5)mm. Female. Notdiscriminatedfromthoseofotherrelatedspecies. Typeseries. Thepresentnewspeciesisverysimilar inexternalappearanceto (A)hozumiiNAKANEetMAKIN0,1989fromMt.Kiso-0ntake, (4.)tactTAKAHAsHl, 1992 fromTsukui,KanagawaPrefecture,andothermedium-sizedblackishspecies, butcanbeeasilydistinguished fromthembytherobustdorsalprocessof themale genitalia. Thespecific nameisgivena量er Mr. MasatoHINAKURA, who first found this uniquespecieshavingpeculiarmalegenitalia,andkindlyentrustedmewiththestudy. Podabrus(Asiopodabrus)tsuchikawal'sp nov. [Japanesename:Tsuchikawa-kubibosojokai] (Figs3,6) Male. Relativelysmallspecies.Bodyalmostbrownishblack;headbeforeeyes, antennalsegments1-2,pronota1margin,prosternum,coxae,trochanters, forefemora, basal halves ofmid femora, basal fourthof hind femoraand fore tarsi yellowish brown;antennalsegments3-11,foretarsiandmidtibiaedarkyellowishbrown. NewP()dab,・fisfromCentralandNortheasternHonshu 75 Headscatteredwithfinepunctures in front,densely punctatebehindeyes,and closelysoonneck.Antennaerelativelyshort,reachingbasal fourthofelytra;compara- tive lengthofeachsegmentas follows: - 1.79: 1: 1.16: 1.l2: 1.22: 1.22: 1.19: 1.19: 1.19:1.13:1.43. Pronotum relatively narrow, clearly narrower than hea widest at middle; PW/HW0.88(0.8-0.88),PW/PL1.04(0.93-1.04),PW/PA t55(1.46-1.55),PW/PB 1.14(1.06-1.14);surfacecloselycoveredwithfinepunctures,thepuncturesbecoming somewhat largeronbasalhalfandinanteriormarginalarea; lateralmarginsslightly sinuate, anterior angles alittleangulateandposterior onesslightly prominent; disc wellelevatedexcept for lateralmargins,thoughslightlyandcircularlyconcavewitha vague longitudinal furrow inbasal half.Elytra relativelyshort, clearly wider than pronotum;EW/PW14(1.4-1.44),EL/EW3.1(3.05-3.1).Front andmiddleclaws cleft,innerteethofhindonesenlarged,triangularlyprojectedapicad. Malegenitaliasomewhat elongate; ventral process conjoining lateral sides of parameres,apicesnarrowlyrounded;dorsalprocessverylongandslender,broadlyU- shaped,gentlycurvedinwards(Fig6). Length:4.7(4.7-5.1)mm;breadth:1.0(1.0-1.1)mm. Female. Notdiscriminatedfromthoseofotherrelatedspecies. Type series. Holotype: Inugoeji-Mt. 0hmuro, Tanzawa Mts., Kanagawa , Pref., 29-VI-1997, K. TsUcHIKAwA leg. Paratypes: 1d, Yatakezawa, 0htaki-mura, SaitamaProf.,4-VII-1978,K.SAsAKIleg;1d,Mt.Tense,TokyoMet.,15-VI-1977, M.ToMoKUNIleg.(M.SAT0s' collection). Distribution. Japan(centralHonshu,theFaguscrenatazone). Remarks. Thepresent new species is very similar to t) (A) malthinoldes KIEsENwETTER, l874, f:)(A)kadowakiiNAKANEetMAKIN0, l989fromtheOkiIslands andothersmallblackishspecies,butcanbeeasilydistinguishedfromthembythevery longslenderdorsalprocessofthemalegenitalia. 要 約 高橋和iii :本州中部および東北部に産する黒いクビボソジョウカイ類の3新種. - 本州 中部および東北部から, クビボソジョウカイ属Asiopodab1・its亜属に属する全体がほぼ黒色の3 新種を記載した. うちl種は既知種であるカドワキクビボソジョウカイにひじょうに近縁で kadou,ak1igroupに属する. 残りの2極は,11ac11e,1tusgroupに属するが, いずれもきわめて特異な 交尾器をもち,明らかにこの極群の中の新しい系統を形成するものと認められる.
