BQ9269.6.T3T78 2006 294.3'927 C2006-905713-3 This book is based on two seminars, each titled "Zen and Tantra," given by Trungpa Rinpoche in 197 4. The first four talks took place at Tail of the Tiger Buddhist Retreat Center in Barnet, Vermont, January 1-4, 1974. The final three talks took place in Boston, Massachusetts, February 15-17, 1974 . NOTE ON TERMS: Sanskrit and Tibetan terms, when defined, are shown in italic at first instance. Tibetan terms are spelled phonetically and no transliteration is given. Since "Zen" is a specific type of Buddhist school of thought, it is always capitalized; "tantra"-literally translated as "continuity"-is a broad general term for vajrayana. It is shown in lower case. Diacritics are used on Sanskrit words in the title and in the direct quote from The Life and Teachings ofN aropa, but not used otherwise. "Trust in the Heart" ("Hsin-Hsin Ming"), which appears in Buddhist Texts Through the Ages, translated and edited by Edward Conze, I. B. Horner, David Snellgrove, and Arthur Waley, is used by permission from Oneworld Publications. "Oxherding" from The Collected Works ofChogyam Trungpa, Volume One. Edited by Carolyn Rose Gimian.
