Before we know it our Annual Show/Convention will be upon us. Fremont has decided on dates for next year’s NNA State / Fremont Coin Club Show & Convention which will be May 30th and 31st. See the Show Flyer on the preceeding page, Bob Missel’s letter on page 10, Bourse Agreement on page 12 and remember to make reservations now for the Banquet. It promises to be a fun time. I hope to see you there. In this issue, we are going to shine the “Club Spotlight” on SAC/Midwest Coin Club pages 7 & 8. There are pictures from Wa- hoo Coin Club’s Annual Show as well as Omaha Coin Club’s Show on pages 4 & 5. Under NNA Member News we have a new coin store in the state, (see page 9) Omaha Coin Club continues to offer their 75th Anniversary medals (page 11) On page 16 former NNA Editor, Larry Lee announces an Open House. And lest we forget, NE City is holding their Annual Show on February 8th. Check out all the exciting details on page 21! Also, did you know that there might be “gold in them thar hills” of Ne¬ braska? Well, if you turn to page 17, we learn about “Buried Treasure ” in our very own state. Finally, I would like to query the readership of the Journal and see if there is any interest in an optional online version? With printing and postage costs rising, it is an option that would save the NNA money and, for those members who are comfortable with it, the online option would be a convenient way to receive Nebraska’s premiere, statewide numismatic quarterly. Cotner Blvd. at A Street) Lincoln NE 68510 6 Nebraska Numismatic Association Journal jan/Feb/March 2009 Club Spotlight! /fM\v SAC/MIDWEST Coin Club The SAC/MIDWEST Coin Club, is a result of the merging of the SAC Coin Club and the MIDWEST Coin Club. As the current secretary of the SAC/MIDWEST club. I searched through the documents in my possession, and the time period for this merger to have taken place is somewhere in the early months of 1976. I assume the two clubs had the same lack of membership problems in the 1970’s as most coin clubs have today, which resulted in the merger. Our club has as one of its objectives, to provide an opportunity for coin collec¬ tors to get together for an exchange of numismatic information and to buy and sell numismatic material to other collectors. A formal business meeting is held at the beginning of each meeting, usually very short, to discuss any old and/or new business brought before the membership. The business portion is also a time where any member may present their “Show and Tell” for times which they procured since the last meeting, we then have a “live” auction of any items our members have brought to sell. The auction is normally the liveliest part of our meeting and we always have a great time. Our paid membership for 2008 is 22. Most of our mem¬ bers have been collecting for many years, and have diverse collect¬ ing interests. We encourage our members to bring guests to the meetings, and hopefully they will become new members. The club is a member of the ANA, the membership card says a member since 1962. To keep the club solvent during the year, we do have yearly dues, and an annual raffle. The dues at present are $10 per year for 7 Nebraska Numismatic Association Journal Jan/Feb/March 2009 Club Spotlight! SAC/MIDWEST Coin Club continued adults, and $5 per year for junior members. Our annual raffle is the primary means for fund raising, as we no longer have an annual coin show. As our final meet¬ ing of the year in Decem¬ ber, we have a Christ¬ mas dinner meeting, which for the last several years has been held at Farmer Brown’s restau¬ rant in Waterloo, NE. Do to a lack of major funds, the dinner is “Dutch Treat”, which means eve¬ ryone buys their own meal. We try to provide some door prizes at the dinner using our club finds. This is also the time we have the drawing for the winners of the raffle. Meetings are the first Tuesday of foewryS each month, except December, and are held at Denny’s Restau¬ rant at 84th Street and 1-80. 7:30 pm.
