A must read for all teachers.’ Samantha Goodyear, classroom teacher ‘Michele Elliott was one of the earliest people to recognise the devastating consequences of bullying and, through setting up Kidscape, to take action to tackle it. She has a wealth of experience that she shares through this book. While Elliott recognises that there is no single magic approach to dealing with bullying, The Essential Guide will empower and support all those working in schools.’ Christopher Cloke, NSPCC ‘A book destined to be a classic – a book for using, sharing and adapting for one’s own situation. Michele Elliott can be relied upon for explaining difficult behaviours and finding positive and practical solutions. All people working with children will benefit from having a copy close to hand.’ Carrie Herbert, Chief Executive of Red Balloon Learner Centre Group: for the recovery of bullied children ‘As someone who has interviewed Michele and watched her in action I can say that she is an inspiration. Her down to earth and practical approach to tackling and managing bullying has changed the lives of many. Bullying can no longer be thought of as ‘part of growing up’ or something that only happens in other schools. It shouldn’t be tolerated and as this book shows, it doesn’t have to be. This is an invaluable and practical guide that will equip educators to tackle what can otherwise be a fraught and damaging situation.’ Vanessa Howard, journalist and author The Essential Guide to Tackling Bullying Other titles in the series Cousins: The Essential Guide to Shaping Children’s Behaviour in the Early Years Davies: The Essential Guide to Secondary Teaching Dix: The Essential Guide to Classroom Assessment Dix: The Essential Guide to Taking Care of Behaviour Dix: The Essential Guide to Taking Care of Behaviour for Learning Support Assistants Senior: The Essential Guide to Teaching 14–19 Diplomas Thompson: The Essential Guide to Understanding Special Educational Needs Tolhurst: The Essential Guide to Coaching and Mentoring Trant: The Essential Guide to Successful School Trips Walker: The Essential Guide to Lesson Planning Woods: The Essential Guide to Using ICT Creatively in the Primary Classroom The Essential Guide to Tackling Bullying Michele Elliott PEARSON EDUCATION LIMITED Edinburgh Gate Harlow CM20 2JE United Kingdom Tel: 144 (0)1279 623623 Fax: 144 (0)1279 431059 Website: www.pearsoned.co.uk First published in Great Britain in 2011 © Pearson Education Limited 2011 The right of Michele Elliott to be identified as author of this work has been asserted by her in accordance with the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988.
