I would like to thank Interim President, Dr. Dorothy Cowser Yancy for redirecting the University, she has performed her many duties with diligence and determination in such a small amount of time. Because ofDr. Yancy's efforts, I have a renewed faith that Shaw will continue to strive for excellence for another one-hundred and forty years. All of Shaw University's members past, present, and future members are destined for success and prosperity. I would like to commend the Freshman class of 2013. They have shown great promise and dedication to this school. I leave them with this charge, "be the best freshman class that Shaw has seen, be the best individual that you can be." As a Sociology major I plan to further my education and attend graduate My school. ultimate goal is to make a difference in other people's lives. Holding the title ofMiss Senior was an honor as well as a privilege. During my tenor I had to meet the GPA standard and maintain a 2.5 and be in good standing with the school. The position ofMiss Senior is actually an elected one which means I had to win the votes from my peers. This was not only a popularity contest but an academic one as well. Winning actually gives a boost to ones self-esteem and convinced me that I was a likable and respected person. Having this opportunity allowed me to be involved in many school activities behind the scenes and it showed me the hard work and long hours that it takes to make them successful. This four yearjourney at Shaw University has made me a strong and independent woman. I would like to extend my gratitude to the many faculty, staffand of course my fellow classmates for sticking by me and helping me with this chapter ofmy life.
