A - C Our first task was to establish a reliable frameworkf or the chronology of Athenian bronze t a Ncoinage, to which all but 13 percent of the Agora Greek coins belong. My initial papers focused on s Y-Athenian bronze coinage of the Roman period and of the 4th and early 3rd centuriesB .C. Kleiner, e i Bwho elected not to participate in the final publication, devoted a series of articles to the bronze d u C-coinage of the 2nd and early st centuriesB .C. Walkers pecializedi n the Athenian imperial bronze St Ccoins from the Agora, making them the subject of his 1980 Ph.D. dissertation.F or this project he al e: went through the entire inventoryo f over 3,400 Athenian imperialb ronzes to verify or correct the c sidentificationst hat had been made at the time of discovery,t o obtain weights, and to look for "runs" si nor groups of coins that had been found together but had not been recorded in the list of Agora s e a cdeposits,w hich had been compiled primarilyf or the studyo f ceramic material.I n 1981 I was able to Cl Lidevote eleven months to reexaminingt he remaining 13,000 Greek coins in the same way.
