His current research interests are (a) behavior to fatigue and fracture of materialsandstructures(steelandaluminum,rivetedandboltedconnections,pressurevessels,old steelbridges,windturbinetowers,offshorestructures);(b)probabilisticfatiguemodelingofmetallic materials(includingstatisticalevaluation,sizeeffect,cumulativedamage);(c)probabilisticdesignof glassstructuralelements;(d)mechanicalbehaviorofmaterialsandwoodenstructures(connections and characterization of ancient structures); (e) mechanical and chemical characterization of old mortarsandmasonrystructures. GuianQianobtainedhisPh.D.fromtheInstituteofMechanics,ChineseAcademyofSciences,with amajorinsolidmechanics,in2009.Afterwards,hemovedtoPaulScherrerInstitute(PSI)andwhere he was Postdoctoral Fellow until 2012. Since 2013, he has been a Scientist in the Laboratory for NuclearMaterials,NuclearEnergy,andSafetyDepartmentofPSI.Hiscurrentresearchinterestslie inthefatigueandfractureanalysisofnuclearcomponentsandstructures. Hehasmadesignificant contributionstonuclearsafetyassessment, especiallyinthepressurizedthermalshockanalysisof reactorpressurevesselsandleak-before-breakanalysisofnuclearpiping. Hehaspublishedmore than50peer-reviewedpapers,includingmorethan30SCI-indexedpapersinjournalssuchasActa Materialia, International Journal of Solids and Structures, Engineering Fracture Mechanics, and International Journal of Fatigue.
