She inspires me to do my best and gives me encouragement when I need it most. Kathy, marrying you was the smartest thing I ever did. I’d also like to thank my good friends who have offered advice and support: Tim Grey, Peter Burian, Ellen Anon, and Charlotte Lowrie. All of them are fine authors who took time from their busy schedules when I had questions. A special thank you goes to Art Morris and Peter Burian for letting me use their wonderful images in this book. It takes a great deal of trust for a professional photogra- pher to give their RAW files to someone, but Art and Peter did so without hesitation. Art is one of the premier wildlife photographers in the world, and he offers instruction and inspiration. Visit his website at www.birdsasart.com. Peter is a well-respected stock photographer and author; his website is www.peterkburian.com. Thanks go to John Nack and Mark Dahm at Adobe, who were both quick to answer my questions on Camera Raw, and special thanks go to Thomas Knoll for writ- ing Camera Raw—the subject of this book. And thank you to all the people at Sybex who made this book possible and guided me through the project: acquisitions editor Bonnie Bills, who saw the possibili- ties and made this project happen (congratulations to Bonnie and her husband on their beautiful little girl Beatrix!); developmental editor Pete Gaughan, whose sharp eye and patience were invaluable; production editor Leslie Light for keeping me on schedule; copyeditor Kathy Grider-Carlyle for cleaning up my butchering of the English language; the staff at Happenstance Type-O-Rama; and proofreader Nancy Riddiough. A special thanks to Ellen Anon for her outstanding technical edit. If any mistakes are left in this book, you can be assured they came after Ellen was done! 4432c00.qxd 5/31/05 1:46 AM Page vi Dear Reader, Thank you for choosing RAW 101: Better Images with Photoshop and Photoshop Elements.
