TherehasbeenarecentproposaltorejectthenameQ.prinus(Whittemore6? Nixon2005).WereportitfromfoursitesinWayneCoinsouthernMissouri,on landownedandmanagedbytheUSArmyCorpsofEngineers(USACE)sur- roundingkakeWappapello.Thelakewascreatedin1941bytheUSACEtocon- trol floodingof farmland on the St.FrangoisRiver(USACE 2002).The WappapelloProjectconsistsof44,000acresoflandandwater;thelakevaries insizefrom5,200to23,200acresinsurfacearea,dependingupontheseason. Theoriginalvegetationoftheareaconsistedol woodlandsthatwereparto( theeasterntemperatedeciduousforest(Yatskievych1999).Thisisthefirstre- portofQ.montanainMissouri,andarangeextensionofca.50kmforthespe- ciesonitswesternboundary.BecauseoftheproximityoftheQ.montanapopu- lationsinsouthernIllinois(Nixon&Muller1997;seedistributionmapinFNA, Vol.3,pg.476)andthenumberofpopulationsdiscoveredinWayneCo,MO, thecurrentreportsuggeststhatforestedareasincountieslyingbetweenthe MissouriandIllinoispopulationsshouldbesurveyedforthespecies.
