But ifyou askus to give you abreakdown ofthe moneyvalues—then forget it. Those ofus who run around making phone calls and posters, while meeting atthe ungodliest ofhours, well...we don't get paid in cash. We don't even get a check. We never do. Butwe do get compensated. Believe it or not, we get paid a lot. Afterall the negotiations among Staff, regarding the multitude ofsub- missions, the final decisions arrivedwith difficulty as we wiped the beads ofsweat offourforeheads. What can we say? Amidst all the secretwords ofall the submissions, little explosions sprayed ourvisions like meanings pieced togetherin a frame ofart. Abumper stickeronce screamed out to us, "Realityis forthose who have no imagination." And in the spirit ofthesewise words, we have abandoned all sense of realitywhile the everyday rush ofourlives continues to gain momen- tum. With this edition ofMountVoices, we present imagination to you on a platterin the form ofa claylectern, in hopes thatyou will see the meaning ofour dedication. Breathe in the intoxication ofthese writers and theirworks. Breathe in andbe proud. Don'tbreathe out untilyou've reached that point in the magazine where the words holdyou still. Just for a minute. Be still. Be proud. As forthe nexttime around, the paywon'tbe great—it'llbe better. Some things are definite in this ephemeral world. Markyour calendar. Be there with us when we cash that paycheck.
