Injustover30years,IvyTechStateCollege,morepopularlyknown as IvyTech, hasgrown fromamereideatoathrivingpost-secondaryinstitution. In 1963, theIndianaGeneralAssemblyestablishedIvyTechasIndiana's firststate-wide vocationaltechnical collegeandappropriated$50,000forits development. Followingtheappointmentofastateboardoftrustees, a presidentwasnamedandthefirsttrainingprogram wasestablishedin 1965. TheGeneralAssembly laterauthorizedIvy Tech'spresentregionalstructure of 13 administrativecenterstoprovideaccessibletechnicaleducational opportunitiestoallIndianacitizens. Between 1966and 1969,the 13 regions werecharteredandtheirboardsoftrusteesappointed. Later,IvyTechwas givenauthoritytograntdiplomasandcertificates, includingone-yeartechnical certificatesandtwo-yearassociatedegrees, andtooffergeneraleducation coursesneededforitstechnicaleducationprograms. IvyTech'sgrowthinitsrelativelyshorthistoryhasbeen impressive. Enrollmentreachedmorethan61,000in 1994-95. TheCollegehadonly 3,233 studentsinthefallof1968. WithinthestatewideIvyTechsystem, more than2,300full-andpart-timefacultymembersteachinprogram areasoffered infiveinstructionaldivisions: Business, HealthandHumanServices,Tech- nology,Visual Technologies,andGeneralEducationandSupportServices. IvyTech'sregionalBusinessandIndustryTrainingofficesworkclosely withIndianabusinessestooffercustomizedtraining,re-trainingandcontinu- ingeducationinresponsetospecificcompany needs. Thesetrainingprograms areavailableatIvyTechorin-plant. College Mission IvyTechStateCollegeisapublic, statewide,open-access,community- based,technicalcollege.Thecollege's missionistoenableindividualsto developtotheirfullestpotential andto supporttheeconomicdevelopmentof Indiana. IvyTechpreparesresidentsofIndianawiththegeneral andtechnical educationneededforsuccessfulcareersorforcontinuationinhighereduca- tion. Ivy TechFoundation, Inc. is an Indiananonprofitcorporation estab- lished in 1969 to raise funds to servethe needsofIvy Tech StateCollege and its students. Theprimary areasofthefoundation's serviceare: • Scholarships and grants-in-aid thatallow students to enterthe collegeand complete theirstudies. • Loans forstudents who needtemporary assistance until other sources of financial assistancecan beobtained. • Equipmentpurchases to increasethe level ofinstructional quality in laboratories and classrooms. • Fundingforfaculty enhancementopportunities andawards forexcellence. • Seed money forinnovativeeducational programs ofexceptional merit. Ivy TechFoundation, Inc. is exemptfrom federal income taxation under Section 501(c)(3) oftheInternal RevenueCode. All gifts to the foundation qualify ascharitablecontributions forfederal income tax purposes. In addition, thesegiftsqualify foraspecial Indianastate income tax credit. Vlll
