been written on the subject of Full Contact Karate, most of which have been about Kyokushin Karate, which was one of the pillars of full contact sports. One of the spin-offs of Kyokushin Karate is the style I have been practicing for nearly twenty years now – Ashihara Karate. Although there is little difference when competing in full contact tournaments, some of the styles have their own approach in training and exercises, and some of these spin-offs have gained a lot of interest because of their approach. For me, it was the Sabaki movements and the ability to create realistic fighting situations that I found most appealing. Full contact Karate has formed the basis for my success in several systems that I have learned and fought in. I hope this book by Juergen Hoeller and Axel Maluschka contributes to the development of martial arts. Semmy Schilt 6thDan Ashihara International Karate The Netherlands 9
