He has 4 brothers and 4 sisters. He is a proud 1999 graduate ofBroad Street High School in Shelby. Chris enjoys bowling, drawing, playing musical instruments, and working with his hands. Chris's love for art began at an early age. He says he received inspiration from his older brother. While at Coahoma, Chis, participates in various extra-curricular activities, including the CCC's marching band, cheering with the Coahoma co-ed cheerleading/dance squad. He also serves as a state officer for SKILLSUSA-VICA during the 2001-2002 school year and serves as the president for the local chapter at CCC. Upon departing from Coahoma, Chris plans to attend Mississippi State University in Starksville, Mississippi, and major in computer programming with a minor in graphic design. His future goal is to become a computer technician and teach music. His philosophy oflife is as follows: "You only have one life to live, so make it a successful one." Foreword The 2002 edition ofFree Spirits a compilation oftalents from the Students at Coahoma Community College, along with the guidance oftheir instructors. The publication is headed by the English and Foreign Language Department. Members ofthe English Clubs, Inc., and sponsors have worked diligently to make this publication successful. This year's edition includes poetry, a short story, and a drama. Since its inception, the goal ofFree Spirits is to continue to show the creative and artistic talents ofthe students. Several works in this publication were submitted for competition. First, second, and third place awards were given. The winners are as follows: first place, Gregory Daniel; second place, Terrence Morgan; and third place, Wilma Joy Bays. These winners and all ofthe literary authors in this publication have shown that there is a reward for hard work. Like the works within it, this publication reminds us ofthe creative potential we all have within us. Ifwe dig deeply enough, we can succeed over the most intrusive obstacles and create a work ofbeauty. DEDICATION This volume ofFree Spirits is respectfully dedicated to Mrs. Dorothy Jefferson Stamps, who has rendered over 30 years ofservice to Coahoma Community College. She has aptly served as the major World and American Literature instructor during her tenure. She is dedicated to the achievement ofacademic excellence in her students. Through her love, patience, thoroughness, and professional demeanor, she has inspired her students to attempt the impossible; along the way, she has helped CCC become the great institution it is today. While at CCC, she has been a source ofinspiration and enlightenment to her students and colleagues.
