[email protected] ThegenusCliioriaincludes35speciesthataremostlycommoninwarmerparts oftheworld.Commonnamesolpigeon-wingsorbutterflypeaareusedforthe entiregenus(Correll&Johnston1996J.CliioriamarianaL.isaperennialherb foundthroughouttheUnitedStates,includingeasternTexas.Thisspecificspe- ciesisreportedasfrequentineasternandcentralTexasandinfrequentinsouth- ernArizonafromtheChiricahuatotheBaboquivariMountains,thuscreating awidegapinthedistributionalrangeofthespecies(Correll&Johnston1996; Turneretal.2003).InArizonaitisfoundunderjunipersandlive-oaksmrich soils(Kearney&Peebles1964).Conlirmedidentificationofthisspecieswas madeduringarecentstudyol PinuspondavsaL.andadjacentcommunities withintheDavisMountainsolwestTexas.Thespecieswasfoundatthebottom ofaslopeatapproximately1900melevationwherethesoilsweretherichestin thegeneralareaunderponderosapine,withassociatedspeciesincludingMexi- canPinyon(P.cemhroidesZucc.J,Alligatorjumper{juniperusdeppeanaSteud.), andTexasMadrone(ArbutusxalapensisBuckl.).Thisisthewesternmostfind- ingofClitoriamarianamTexas.Theisolatedfindingreportedheresupports similarconditionsdescribedlorsouthernArizona.Clitoriamarianamaybe foundinotherscatteredlocationsacrosstheMadreanProvince.
