NOTES: This collection of Professor Hilda Kuper's field notes was selected for filming by the author. The notebooks have been arranged in chronological order where possible. Most of the notebooks have been numbered by the author; they represent several series and have varied numberings. For ease of identification in the use of this microfilm, a single numerical sequence has been applied to the collection of notebooks (Film Sequence Numbering) Unless specified, all references to notebook numbers refer to Film Sequence Numbering. Several notebooks include indexes. Some also have separate indexes on cards provided by the author. Both indexes have been filmed, the card index preceding the text of the corresponding notebook. index cards for which then :«0: corresponding notebooks. These cards have been filmed with an indication that no notebook will follow. There is also a general subject index that covers a group of selected notebooks dated 1931 thru 1941. Some notebooks in the time period were omitted from the subject index. Entries show author's numbering for the notebooks. A table converting the author's notebook numbers to Film Sequence Numbering precedes the subject index. Some of the notebooks have text beginning at both the front and rear covers and working inwards towards the center. Text beginning at the front/cover is designated the A side; text written in the other direction is called the B side. Whenever A and B texts intersect, the relevant pages are filmed in their appropriate positions in each sequence. Blank leaves between the texts of the A and B sides of ^ notebooks are treated as belonging to side Pagination within notebooks is inconsistent. In some cases, it is unclear whether a leaf is missing or whether a number has been omitted from the pagination. Some notebooks are not paginated. ^ ^___^ Many notebooks contain discolored, stained or torn leaves. There are faint illegible traces of writing on the covers of some notebooks. The text of these covers has been noted on a target where legible. Part of the text is in blue, black or red ink, while part is in pencil. Some pages contain text in both ink and pencil. The filroers have tried to preserve the legibility of the notebooks as best possible. Start #36 Notebook Numbering: (Author's 1) 1965
