Therefore,we assessedplasma miRNAs toinvestigate the dynamicsofoncomir 17-92a, which ishighlyexpressed inmultiple myeloma(MM) patients. Theplasma miR-92alevel insymptomatic MM patientswas significantly downregulated compared withnormal subjects (Po0.0001), regardlessofimmunoglobulin subtypes ordisease stage atdiagnosis. Incontrast, miR-92a levels in peripheralbloodCD8þ orCD4þ cells fromMM patientswere lowerthanthoseof normalsubjects, andthe miR-92alevels of thecellstendedto correlatewith plasma miR-92alevels. The plasma miR-92alevelin thecompleteremission group became normalized, whereas thepartial response (PR)and very goodPR groups did notreach thenormal range.Insmoldering MM, theplasmamiR-92a leveldid not showa significantdifference compared withnormal subjects. Our findingssuggest that measurementof theplasma miR-92alevel inMMpatients could be useful forinitiation ofchemotherapy and monitoring diseasestatus, and thelevelmay represent, inpart, theT-cellimmunity statusof these patients.
