NORWELL FARMS 4-H CLUB Charlie McMahon and Merrie Archer PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANC E I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. 4-H PLEDGE I pledge my head to clearer thinking, My heart to greater loyalty, My hands to larger service, and my health to better living, for my club, my community, my country, and my world. BIOS - CHARLIE ▪ 16 years old ▪ Live in Norwell ▪ Sophomore at Boston College High School ▪ Joined 4-H at Weir River Farm when I was 11 ▪ Worked as Counselor In Training for 3 years ▪ Currently Serving as Jr. Leader of Muddy Buddies at Weir River ▪ 4-H Ambassador ▪ Jr. Leader of new Norwell Farms 4-H Club ▪ Camp Counselor at Farm Fun Days BIOS - MERRIE ▪ Former 4-H member for 10 years ▪ Showed beef and dairy cattle at Marshfield, Westport and Topsfield Fairs ▪ Was part of Farmtastic 4-H ▪ Graduated from the University of New Hampshire ▪ Major in Equine Management, Minor in Dairy Management ▪ Worked as camp counselor at Weir River Farm ▪ Currently Educational Director at Norwell Farms WHAT IS 4-H? ▪ Largest youth development organization in the world ▪ Similar to Boy/Girl Scouts ▪ Teach life skills though Agriculture and the Sciences ▪ Community Service Projects ▪ Leadership opportunities ▪ Public Speaking events 4-H CLUBS ▪ Organized within counties ▪ Every club has a specific “Project Area” ▪ i.e.) Muddy Buddies at Weir River focus on swine, do swine activities, learn about swine etc… ▪ Norwell Farms club set up to be “Homesteading Club” ▪ Allows us to have multiple project areas which could include but not limited too: ▪ Swine ▪ Chickens ▪ Gardening ▪ Community Service ▪ We would also take field trips NORWELL FARMS CLUB ▪ Two meetings a month ▪ One meeting per month at NPL ▪ Business meeting – Records, VPs, lessons ▪ One meeting per month (weather dependent, starting in the spring) ▪ Work Meeting – farm chores, hands on lessons ▪ Cleaning chicken coops, bread dough/butter etc… PROJECT RECORDS ▪ Setting up for resume building ▪ Keep track of everything you do, in and out of 4-H ▪ Will start this in September of 2017 VISUAL PRESENTATIONS (VPS) ▪ 4-H members can make presentations on any topic ▪ We practice as a group ▪ Teach public speaking skills/tips ▪ Present on County Level at Silver Lake Middle School ▪ Chance to go on to State Level and Big E
