It was found in shady understory of open,pr imy, evergr n, 釘 田 seasonal,h ardwood forest with low sta伽rene紅 agap at an elevation of 2100 m,w here it was rare. It remained unknown for several years until Dr. Somran Suddee (BK町suggested it to be Calanthe puberula L泊d,.lwhich is an ew record for 官lailand. SEIDENFADEN (1975) lists 15 species of Calanthe for Thailand. Another species w 部 副dedto the list泊 1995(SEIDENFADEN,19 95). Myc ollection is出e17曲speciesof Calanthe for 百lailand.官llSsp回iesis an evergreen,te rres凶alherb up to 45 cmt all. It is distinguished 仕omother species by having ac ombination of as hort stem (i.e. less than the length of出e petioles) without f1eshy pseudobulbs,un jointed leaves,pe rsistent f10ral bracts,ab sence of as pur,li p with conspicuous side lobes,an d ar hombic midlobe with two keels at the base and crenulate margins. It is in subgenus Calanthe sect. Calanthe (SEIDENFADEN,1 992). Identification has been confimled by J. F. Maxwell (CMU) by using SEIDENFADEN'S (1992) revision of Indo・ChineseCalanthe,w hich has also 17 species. Thea ccompanying draw泊g(p. 95) depicts ad istinct pseudobulb which according to his key and mys pecimen, eabsent. PRADHAN (1979) also mentions ap seudobulb,b ut the drawing (p. 254) is 釘 similar to that of Seidenfaden's.百leother aspects of these drawings,es pecially the lip, conform with my material.百lespecific epithet of白isspecies refers to the finely and sparsely puberulous pedicels,s epals,阻dpetals.
