I have worked for over 30 years as an accountant, but I have always had a desire to become a professional illustrator. I have recently started a business of pencil sketches of pets from photographs, called “Pencil my Pet”. My ability to draw was dramatically changed when I fi rst purchased Betty Edwards’ book, “Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain” back in 1984. This book taught me so much about how to actually see what you draw. I recommend it highly to any aspiring artist. I love drawing people’s pets, as being a pet owner myself, I know that special bond you have with a pet and how much joy they bring to your life. It is so rewarding to produce a picture for a pet owner that captures the personality of their beloved friend. A number of my sketches have been done for owners whose pets have passed on, and they have been so thrilled to have such a unique memory of them. I work with graphite pencil, carbon and charcoal, as well as Prismacolour pencils. I am also currently doing an online Illustration course to develop my skills. One day I would dearly love to give up accounting and draw full time. Regards, Debra Land 6 Artist’sDrawingandInspiration These feature pages are reserved for displaying the work of emerging and developing Australian artists; as well as other unknowns whose efforts may provide interest for our readers.
