Vorbemerkung
Nach unserem Bericht "Elfenbeinküste, Obervolta, Sierra Leone 1962", der
mit anderen westafrikanischen Ländern noch in der Gruppe "Afrikanische Ent¬
wicklungsländer" erschien, ist das vorliegende Heft eine vollständige Neu¬
bearbeitung der Darstellung über die Republik Elfenbeinküste. Die in der
Reihe "Allgemeine Statistik des Auslandes" erscheinenden Länderberichte
fassen das jeweils verfügbare Zahlenmaterial zusammen, das über die Grund¬
lagen und vor allem über die neueste Entwicklung des wirtschaftlichen und
gesellschaftlichen Lebens des Berichtslandes Auskunft gibt.
Als Quellen dienen grundsätzlich die Jahrbücher und die in kürzeren Zeitab¬
ständen erscheinenden statistischen Veröffentlichungen der amtlichen Stel¬
len des betreffenden Landes. Soweit eigene Publikationen der Länder nicht
oder nicht rechtzeitig verfügbar sind, werden auch statistische Veröffent¬
lichungen der internationalen Organisationen, vor allem des Statistischen
Amtes der Vereinten Nationen und der angeschlossenen Organisationen, heran¬
gezogen.
Im Rahmen des verfügbaren Raumes ist es nur beschränkt möglich, die stati¬
stischen Begriffe und Methoden zu beschreiben, die bei der Erhebung und Be¬
arbeitung der veröffentlichten Zahlen angewandt wurden.Vergleichsschwierig¬
keiten ergeben sich naturgemäß u.a. aus der Verschiedenartigkeit der Ziel¬
setzungen, Fragestellungen, Methoden, Begriffe u.dgl., so daß ausländische
Statistiken auch aus diesem Grunde mit denen der Bundesrepublik nicht immer
vergleichbar sind. Den Benutzern, die sich über Methodenfragen eingehehder
orientieren wollen,stehen im Statistischen Bundesamt die OriginalVeröffent¬
lichungen und der Auskunftsdienst zur Verfügung.
In diesem Zusammenhang muß auch darauf hingewiesen werden, daß an die Sta¬
tistiken von Entwicklungsländern noch nicht dieselben
Maßstäbe angelegt werden dürfen wie an Statistiken aus Ländern mit alter
statistischer Tradition. Abweichende Angaben, z.B. für gleiche Tatbestände
bei Verwendung verschiedener Quellen, können u.a. mangels oder wegen nur un¬
zureichender Erläuterung der statistischen Begriffe nicht immer befriedi¬
gend geklärt werden. Für den vorliegenden Bericht wurden hauptsächlich die
amtlichen Quellen der Republik Elfenbeinküste, außerdem einige internatio¬
nale Veröffentlichungen herangezogen.

Stuttgart, verfaßt und in der Abteilung "Ernährung und Landwirtschaft, All¬
