Chances are you can't, because your tongue won't cooperate. Tongue twisters are designed to tangle tongues, tickle funnybones, and lead to gaggles ofgiggles. Every tongue twister is a teaser, but some of the longer ones are also good sto- ries. One ofthe funniest in this collection concerns a seller of saddles named Sam Short who's smitten with Sophia Sophro- nia Spriggs. This loony love story was written in the 1890's by Kate Wheeler and is one of the few twisters with a known author. Most were originated by people long forgotten and were passed by word of mouth from one generation to another. In the process of being passed along, twisters change.
