In a paperthat is not covered by theZoological Record, Geniez & Bertrand(2001)
introducedAbidaescudieifromthe departmentofAudeas aspecies newto science. Later
on, Bichain(2005) citedA.escudiei as an additionto theFrenchmolluscanfauna.Geniez
& Bertrand(2001) consideredA.polyodon (Draparnaud, 1801)mostclosely relatedtotheir
alleged newspecies. However,onthebasisoftheoriginaldescription, theeightvery clear
figures going withit, showing thepeculiar shape ofthe aperture withtheequally diag-
nostic apertural teeth, therecanbe no doubtthatAbida partioti (DeSaint-Simon, 1848)is
involvedhere. That viewwas confirmedwhen some specimens of ‘A. escudiei’fromthe
departmentofAudewere studied,kindlyput atmy disposalbyMr. Th.E.J.Ripken.
Abidapartioti hadindeedonly beenreported beforefromthe departmentsof Basses-
Pyrénées andHautes-Pyrénées in France,and fromthePyrenean valleys westoftheSegre
riverin NE Spain(see Gittenberger, 1973:139-142,fig.69, map8). Therecordwas newbut
not so thespecies.
