Dear Friends and Colleagues: E ACA is extremely pleased and excited to be holding the 2015 Conference & Expo in Orlando, Florida. It is not that long before the March date when we will embrace the learning, networking, and fun that will take place in the Orlando community. This is a great opportunity to rejuvenate during the Mspring by joining your professional community for three days of education and inspiration in the sunshine state. In addition to being an affordable location with terrific weather for conference attendees, Florida is home to a very large and active population of professional counselors and counselor educators. Their collective experiences, insights, and passion will make this conference an event to remember. Please join us for what is shaping up to be a great line up. The education sessions this year have been streamlined into tracks providing participants with the option of focusing on O particular areas of interest (more than 30 topics). In addition, a new Clinician Education Series, for clinicians by clinicians, has been added. I am personally looking forward to keynotes by Mariel Hemingway and Drs. Jeffrey Kottler and Richard Balkin. All three speakers have much to offer in terms of one’s personal journey toward healthy living, and the importance of the relationship in counseling, and all walks of life. C Go ahead and plan now to make the most of your time in Florida. Of course, I have been planning this for some time. From the unique natural beauty of the Everglades and wildlife to the one-of-a-kind family friendly attractions, there is truly something for everyone. There is also a good bet you will run into my wife at a certain “Wizarding World.” The ACA staff has been hard at work making sure we have the best options for ALL L counseling professionals. Keep in mind that all of the 2015 conference activities will be held in one venue—the stunning Hyatt Regency Orlando. We therefore will have opportunities to connect like never before. I invite you to flip through this brochure and take a closer look at the 2015 ACA Econference. You will find that it is education, but much more. This will be a personal and professional experience that will stay with you for years to come. I look forward to seeing you in March! Sincerely, W Robert L. In 2013, she was the focus of a rich and evocative documentary, which examined her personal journey to understand the Hemingway family history of suicide and mental illness. Executive produced by Oprah Winfrey, Running From Crazy won a 2013 SAMHSA Voice Award. Saturday Keynote Speakers Dr. Richard Balkin and Dr. Jeffrey Kottler Saturday, March 14 | 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. Windermere Ballroom, Hyatt Regency Orlando Hotel The Power of Relationships in Counseling—and the Counselor’s Life What do you do to help people that matters most? What is it about your particular counseling style that leads to the best outcomes with clients, regardless of their background and presenting issues? After a century of investigation we have a definitive answer that transcends all our debates and differences: Regardless of the approach, theoretical model, or chosen intervention, it is the relationship that empowers everything else that we do. This provocative dialogue between two noted authorities on relationally- based counseling will focus on some of the key factors that often make the most difference in successful outcomes. Jeffrey Kottler and Richard Balkin will integrate some of the key facets of relatively enduring changes that take place within counseling relationships, focusing on those variables that make the greatest difference. Although their approaches and styles are distinctly different, Jeffrey and Rick model ways that we can come to a consensus regarding what matters most in the work that we do.
